Just recently came across this small pocket .25acp marked Hawes Firearm Co. Made in Germany.

Until now I'd never heard of or seen a "Hawes" anything. I've found very little info about this company and in particular this gun. Seems Hawes imported both Galisi and J.P.Sauer. I assume this one is the later as it is German but I can't find any reference to it in J.P.Sauer literature. These are reported to be imported in the '50s and '60s. I assume that stopped in 1968. Any more info or references would be appreciated.

The only weapon I was aware of that was made by Hawes was the Western Marshal SA revolver. I remember different folks who loved them and some that hated them although I don't know the reasons for either stance.

Closest I can find in the way of a 6.35mm. pistol made in Germany with a Sauer connection would be their WTM (Vest Pocket Model), 1924 and 1928 Pistol. Maybe this was a redesigned post-war version made for export, probably primarily for the U.S. market, in the '50s and '60s till the GCA 1968 stopped their importation.

Here is the box it came in

Will be real interested what you think when you handle it and shoot it.. Some of those Hawes guns were made with cheaper metals and sometimes do not hold up the best.

IIRC Hawes was an LA Importer. That looks very much like the Italian early Galesi and it was not unusual for 50-60 German companies to import Italian pieces parts for final assembly in Germany.

Hawes - H. Schmidt - Herbert Schmidt are various names for the same German firearms manufacturer, known for making cheap firearms using low-quality steel. JP Sauer is not the same firearms company. They made high quality stuff before merging into Sig Sauer. I don't know if the Hawes importer was affiliated with H. Schmidt or not.

I have a cheap nickel plated revolver made by them as an example of a typical "Saturday night special":

Omega HS-300 (note "HS" on the grip)

"Omega" was another of their brands.

Back during the 1st obummer crises I went to an auction that had alot of Hawes gun, They were used, not abused but used guns made of that pot metal never looks wonderful. These were mostly the cowboy type. Anywho, all guns were commanding a high price and they sold in the 4-500 dollar rand for each one.. And where as I knew this was going to come back and haunt the buyers it was their choice. But they were paying as much as used Ubertis at the time.. Or heck even now..
