HD shotgun...how many in the mag?

Shotguns have big coil magazine tube springs that will literally last a human lifetime or two. I know of shotguns that have been kept fully loaded on the farm for a couple generations, at least 50 years, and still work every time they're called upon.

My 1100 has an extension which brings it up to 8 in the mag. As far as total ammo availability, that makes 9 00 buck in the gun, and a belt loaded with 25 slugs right next to it. Not that I really anticipate needing 25 slugs, but it's silly to run around with a half empty belt.

I've been keeping 2 in the mag and none chambered. Don't shoot my double ought frequently so I didn't want the shells to bulge and jam with too many in the mag and the pressure being so high. I keep the 6 shot side saddle full though so I can chamber one immediately and load 6 into the tube if necessary.

I have a Remington 870 with a 7 round magazine extension and a side saddle holder with six Winchester slugs at the ready that I carry in my truck in a rack. It's been there for one year and there's been no trouble with the spring when I go to the range.
