I finally got around to making a more thorough video demonstrating the Garand from various angles, with some slow motion, etc. On this video I put forward my opinion that the M1 Garand was the greatest battle rifle of all time because of how it was used and what it accomplished. Would enjoy hearing other perspectives on this question, which is probably one of those issues that will remain a subject for discussion and consideration for a long time.

Any rate, would love to see your favorite Garand demonstration videos and anything else you might want to add to the conversation.

Here's a link to the video.

I was introduce to my uncle's Garand when I was 8...and Garand thumb shortly after. Didn't touch another one until ROTC in high school

I don't like the M1, it was heavy, held only 8 rounds of a large heavy cartridge in a hard to change clip and bit the finger of the loader if mis-handled

Alrighty then....

Somebody didn't really bother to watch the video...the reason I argue the M1 is the finest battle rifle in history is because it was this weapon that outclassed every other battle rifle during WWII and was the tool used to defeat worldwide totalitarianism and free literally millions of people.

that outclassed every other battle rifle during WWII
Actually it didn't really compare to the G43 and G44 except in availability...much as the Sherman really wasn't a match for the Pz-V or Pz-VI in a head to head matchup

Uh huh.
Cause it was used in one war where it was better than the other rifles there makes it the best ever? In all of history, ever?

Whatever.

Yes, Bad Santa...

Greatest battle rifle in all of history, so far, of course.

Used as the tool that was used to rid world of the filth of Nazi Germany and Imperialistic Japan...yup.

i'm pretty new here, but when i saw this thread, i just had to post.

the garrand was a pretty interesting rifle but it had a limited service life and was never willingly adopted by other countries

i'm thinking a stronger arguement could be made for the british enfield mk4. it served in two wars, had a larger mag than the garrand, and could place more accurate rounds on target faster; which was proven in the mad minute competition

Silly logic.

u r not looking at the rifle as a tool or a weapon. people freed the world from the Nazis and the Japanese horde, not a rifle.

i say the M16 is the greatest battle rifle in history. the garand was only in service for about 15 years. and the marines didn’t even get it until near the end of WWII. the M16 has been in service for about 50 years now, seen 3 different eras of war and dozens of small scale battles. it has been refined and upgraded beyond what anyone thought it was capable of. in WWII if you were a tanker or a mortar man, you got an M1 carbine and had to use a completely different ammo, magazines and everything which meant supply problems. today, if soldiers need carbines, you make the M16 into one and you still got the same ammo supply, magazine and parts.

Try reading before commenting, Bad Santa.

I said: "Used as the tool..."

And, you are factually in error when you assert the Marines did not get it until the end of WWII.
