He (Didn't) Go to Jareds!

I did the same thing, walked up to the door, and immediately turned right back around. My wife is sporting some nice jewelry that wasn't purchased at Jared.

Jayman, that's only half the battle. Does the store management know that you walked up, and turned around? If they do not hear about this sort of thing, they do not think about it. And they do not change their policies.

They are NOT psychic. They've just got someone in upper management who is scared of guns. And since not enough folks have gotten word to 'em, that's going to be the case until someone says "Hey, you know what? This is our target customer demographic - we're only hurting ourselves."

They are NOT psychic.

Bogie, I didn't think to tell them. I think that telling the folks in the store is worthless, I'd probably be better off contacting corporate. I'll do that tomorrow.

I did the same thing with my cable company (I don't buy diamonds or most jewelry due to the politics) who had a "no guns no way" sign in the front window.
I wrote management a nice letter and switched my ISP to a competitor. And, saved money.

The funny thing about gun stores and ranges that put up signs like that is what they subtly imply. Keep your CCW loaded, holstered, and concealed. The problem isn't CCW, it's idiots with a CCW who proceed to unholster and screw around with a loaded weapon. I recall being told once in regards to the subject "Well, if they keep it hidden, then I guess it don't really matter, now does it?". An unloaded policy (should) serve as idiot prevention, not disarmament.

Jareds did you a favor, their prices are way too high. Since you're in northern VA go to the Mervis in Tysons or Rockville and spend a whole lot less. The price difference Jareds and Mervis for my wifes ring was $1,500 and an additional $700 for the wedding bands.

Good to know, my 20th anniversary is coming up next year.....I guess I know of two stores I won't be shopping at.........

Jayman, it needs to be multi-pronged... If upper management gets letters, fine... If upper management gets letters, and has one of their store managers call up and say "Hey, this guy just walked in and showed me a receipt for $5,000 from Acme, and told me that he went there instead of here just because of that dang sign - I can't compete that way!"

That gets noticed.

I don't go to Jared's, I go to a wonderful jeweler who's been in business for 30 years. I have given him very decent business. I've even had him do some wonderful work redoing some of my pieces. On top of that he carries a small little 1911. It doesn't hurt that he's 6'5" and a VERY accomplished weight lifter. Anyways good luck and don't work too hard.

I missed their sign when I walked in one day; the guard freaked out. There's no ambiguity with open carry.

They built one (Jared's) near me a couple of years ago. Like we needed ANOTHER jewelry store right across from the mall. I'll be sure to stay out of it. I'll be damned if I'm a sitting duck in a place that advertises that all who shop there are unarmed! Thanks for the info.
We also have a local Chinese buffet that we decided to try ONCE that had a similar sign up. I chuckled as I had my Taurus 44 Spl neatly tucked away. Won't be going there again, either. It wasn't very good, anyways.

I know here in Missouri they cant prosecute for simply carrying into a place that has a no ccw sign up. Its not against the law. If your a made they can make you leave though.

I wasn't very pleased when I saw that sign on the local store, but they didn't even give me a chance to do business with them because of their poor service.

At least I never had to worry about carry being prohibited at an online jeweler :neener:

the problem the big chains type jewelers is they have to charge a lot more to pay for the advertising.

Congrats. I think it is great that you let them know that they lost out on a sale. Word of mouth does wonder for a business good or bad. Now I won't be heading to Jareds as well.

The wife and I will be celebrating our 20th anniversary this July, and for Valentine's day, rather than pretty rocks, I bought her a S&W 642 Airweight with Crimson Trace grips. The pretty baubles say, "I want to entertain you and make you glittery." The gun says, "I love you."

:D

Now, let's just hope she sees it my way!

Tinygnat 219, "Gunowner unfriendly businesses" wow Smith & Wesson, it just doesn't make sense.

I always figured that I'm in very little danger in a gun store if I am not armed. The salesmen always are, and are probably a better shot and know the layout of the store better than I do. I also don't want to piss off the owner who may actually be serious about his policy. A jeweler, sure, violate his policy all day long. I prefer to stay on the gun store owner's good side.
