Wal-Mart Pricing....

This is good to hear, especially since I've been hearing rumours about 9mm ammo going up in proce due to Iraq.

On the plus side, .357/.45/.38 spl seems still to be priced reasonably. .32/.380ACp always seems pricier :banghead:

Hey, anybody know who's got the best price on 230gr ball .45acp?
My local Walmart was out last week. No WWB. Thinking of going to Great Western next weekend (30th) to shop too...

High Velocity (Hope you like the Springfield.)Actually it 's Blazer and Remington.Precinct line just north of Harwood.

hmm hopefully the .40 stuff goes on sale too, this would be nice.. Although I pay 15 bucks for the WWB 100rd value pack, usually pick up 2 of them. :D

Is 9mm really being used that much in Iraq that it's necessary to raise its price to consumers? I kinda doubt it but any excuse will work to raise the price.

In the current economic climate it's unlikely that you'll see a price increase on any non-essential product like ammunition.

Ammo is heavy, costs a lot to ship, extra shipping costs due to higher gas prices I'd wager. Check out reloading component prices lately too.

I've been buying CCI Blazer aluminum cased 9mm 115gr FMJ for $3.68 a box of 50 at the local Academy -- its one if their regular loss-leaders to get you into the store.

Let me guess you heard this from a ammo dealer at a gun show or a gun shop trying to sell you ammo. 9mm just seems to be getting cheaper and cheaper. It is the only ammo I don't order over the Internet.

Wally,

I do business with WalMart. When shipping costs go up, WalMart makes its suppliers eat those costs. WalMart is the 800-pound gorilla of retail, and what it wants, it gets.

Don't let the economic cheerleaders fool you--money is about as tight as its been in recent times. People selling non-essential items would love to raise their prices right now to compensate for shipping costs but the market won't tolerate it. Items people have to buy like food and energy will continue to increase in price but the economy is so fragile right now that anytime prices go up on non-essential items, especially recreational items like target ammo, people just quit buying it.

We could see some interesting economic times very shortly.

Nope. This is exactly why WalMart won't be raising the price of ammo anytime soon. In fact I expect the prices of other calibers to start coming down a bit, too. I can see a time when you can pick up 50 rounds of .45ACP Blazer Brass for under $8.00 at Wally World, even though gas might be $2.50 at the pump.

I can often find .45ACP Remmington/UMC, Fiocchi, or PMC 230gr ball for $160 a case of 1000 at gun shows -- works out same as your proposed Wallyworld Blazer Brass scenerio -- but this is now.

Walmart may be a mover in lots of retail, but I don't see them really shaking things up in guns and ammo (or cameras/electronics either for that matter). The local Academy is almost always cheaper than Walmart on stuff both carry firearms related. I check Walmart's firearms website for stuff I'm intrested in and if they have it, its rare I can't get a slightly better price at gun shows -- thus I've never bought a gun at Walmart.

Sportsman's guide recently rasied the shipping surcharge from $5 to $10 on a case of Wolf .45 ACP -- luckily I'd stocked up :) Wolf runs ~$130/1000 at gun shows so its still cheaper for me to order it from www.sportmansguide.com.

Two problems with this, Wally. First you have to buy 1000 rounds at a time. If it's going to cost you $160 to get ammo for your 1911 when you decide to take it to the range, you might just leave it in the safe and take your 9mm.

Second, what does Sportsman's Guide charge for shipping? I've tried every company on the net, and once you factor in shipping, it's still cheaper to go to WalMart.

I'd not worry about shipping cost vs burning gas running back and forth to the store to buy a box or two of ammo at a time :)

I generally order ammo from sportsman's guide in large quanties when I also am odering something else. Much of their ammo doesn't have the surcharge, and the S&H seems pretty close to a flat rate based on how much you spend topping out at $20 for "over $500" other than for a few items with the shipping surcharge, as far as I can tell. Of course you can pay ( a lot!) more to get it faster, but typically if I order on Saturday UPS has a package for me on Friday.

Anyways, for me its almost always a wash between S&H and sales tax once I'm spending more than about $150. My only real complaint is they do a lot of backorders, rarely exceeding the 30 days where the FTC requires them to offer you the chance to cancel the order, but I'd thought with their web based orders there would be fewer surprises when I open the box. Not the place to order if you gotta have it for sure tomorrow, but if you are not in a serious hurry they give good service. No hassles about returns either, but shipping back is strictly on you dime for the priviledge of having had a look-see.

I rarely find it worthwhile to buy less than a case of ammo at a time except for the over-priced ammo I carry :)

Actually the UMC and PMC was in cardboard boxes of 500 rounds for $80 packed as ten boxes of 50 rounds, I didn't mention this to keep my initial comment short.
