...although it may be terrible.

In this thread, "I love the smell of AR-15's in the morning," the distinct odor an AR-15 gives off when fired is discussed. Now, I know < nothing about ammunition, but have any of you reloaders considered adding a few grains of something that burns with a distinct smell you enjoy?

Now, I don't want anyone to be offended by the idea of "scented ammo," but it seemed like an interesting experiment if nothing else. Do you think the non-explosive grain(s) would interfere with ballistics?

Dropping in a few grains of your favorite incense shouldn't have any effect on your loads. But is Sulfer/Lavender really a good combination?

No way in hell am I dropping anything foreign into the cases. Powder only.

While your additive probably won't cause any probems, why take the risk?

Who knows what might happen when you combine WW748 and Avon Herbal Garden scented bath crystals?

You want to be the test case with YOUR $500 plus rifle, with YOUR face right down beside the action?

I have to admit, at work, when powder activated tools are used around me, the odor makes me want to immediately run off the jobsite, and go shoot my rimfires! They must use the same powder in the loads for those fastening guns, because it smells exactly like a day at the range, shooting 22s.

Interesting post. Just a pinch of Capt Black might be nice. Hell, people use all sorts of stuff for fillers on light loads in big cases.
You might be on to a great marketing idea.:D "Black Talon with Rose Petals" sounds much less lethal. How about "Magnolia Magnum"?

smell of napalm in the am!

Will never forget the smell of m-14 gun powder, even now at the range you could tell whose is firing one by the smell, brings back memories!!

Oddly enough, the smell doesn't do much for me. This past weekend at the CO Regional Champtionships, I was standing, waiting for targets at the 300 yard line. The smell of burned powder filled the air of course, but I could also distinctly smell the blooming mountain wildflowers. Now THAT's a smell I can't get tired of!

(Sherri Gallagher's lovely perfume was also wafting my way...a pleasant addition to an otherwise stinky day!)
