A female friend of mine purchased a gun from a friend of hers. The seller does not have a liscence to sell firearms and the transaction took place in her home. What can she do to make sure the gun doesnt have a bad history and how can she register it. not sure if it matters but it is a handgun. she now wants to get her carry permit and use this gun as her carry gun...I know things were done totally out of order here but just wanted to know what she can do now to clean it up and make everything legal.

pistol

She does not need to register it,in fact the state does not have means of registering guns.
The sale was totally legal unless the gun is stolen.
When you apply for a carry permit it is for any pistol you may have and you don't have to say which one you intend to carry.
To play it safe, she should have gotten a Bill of Sale for her own protection in case the pistol was stolen.

For a pistol license, go down to the courthouse. It is the same one where you get a marriage license (shrug) and the cost is less than $50

ok, thanks for the feedback.how can she find out if gun is stolen or attached to any crimes ?

I would not worry about it.Most likely it is O.K. If for some reason a LEO checked it out and it was stolen that would be the reason for having a Bill of Sale.
The Ser. number could be run by any LEO but as I said "I would not worry about it"

Nothing was out of order with that sale, as long as the seller and the buyer are Georgia residents, not convicted felons, and the gun is not stolen.

If there is no reason to think the seller of the gun was selling a stolen gun, then I would not worry about checking into the gun's past. If you do have the serial number run, and it comes up stolen, it will be confiscated.
