I want to buy a Garrand from the CMP while they're still available. They are very up front informing you that the condition of the rifles in any grade are shipped out on the "luck of the draw". I have seen varying conditions of the Garrands in Service grade and Field grade (which are the grades I would be choosing from) ranging from kinda beat up to very nice, and impressive. I understand you can actually go to the store and hand pick from whats available. My question is, has anyone out there gone to the store and picked their own? What was the experience like? How were you recieved, was the staff helpful or otherwise? Also, asides from the proper documents, is there anything I should take with me, or anything I should look for other than obvious heavy wear. Would the staff there be able / willing to help me pick the best from the ones to choose from.
Obviously I'm not up on the inner workings yet of a FA. But I do want to own a piece of American history, and would like it to be a decent shooter. Something I would treasure till death do us part. There seems as if nothing would better fit the bill for this than a CMP Garrand.
