Help Defeat KY HB 151 : Would Remove Preemption

State: Kentucky

What would it do? : Remove the state preemption on firearms and allow local restrictive ordinances against firearms.

http://www.nraila.org/legislation/s...way-with-legislation-already-on-the-move.aspx

"Unfortunately, anti-gun sentiments among some state legislators in Frankfort continued with the introduction of House Bill 151 by state Representative Reginald Meeks (D-42). HB 151 would repeal critical components of the current statewide firearms preemption law and allow for localities across the state to enact their own patchwork of potentially restrictive and irresponsible gun control laws, including a mandate for locking devices on firearms, mandatory firearm storage requirements, and limits on the possession of firearms by certain individuals.

HB 151 has been assigned to the House Judiciary Committee but has not yet been scheduled for a hearing. Your NRA strongly opposes this bill and those like it that would infringe on your Second Amendment rights."

We need to make sure this legislation gets defeated. Don't ever assume that just because we live in a so called 'pro-gun' state that it will always will remain that way.

In just the last year or two we have had proposals for 'assault weapons ban', registration of firearms, licensing of gun owners, three day waiting periods and now this piece of steaming pile.

Tell others to get online, get organized, make phone calls and have this legislation defeated soundly. Please don't take our gun rights for granted. Not now, not ever.

The two people sponsoring this are Representative Reginald Meeks (D)
House District 42 Jefferson (part) (Louisville area) and also Representative Mary Lou Marzian (D) House District 34 Jefferson (part) (Louisville area).

Thanks for putting this back on my radar. I'm not at all surprised that these two Louisville nanny-staters are behind this bill.

I will make sure my state Representative knows he isn't supposed to vote for this, assuming it even makes it to the floor.

More information on this......

"....call 800-372-7181 and tell the operator that you want to leave a message for all the members of that committee. The message should be "I oppose HB 151, do not hold a hearing for HB 151."

This phone number is not manned 24 hrs. a day. There is no message machine. If you don't talk to a live person your message will not get delivered. You can also leave the same message for all the House leadership. The operator will know who they are.

They are all very nice ladies that know their job. Please be nice to them. The will ask your name and address. There are 18 Representatives in Jefferson Co. The districts are divided geographically. If you don't know which district you are in, call the County Clerks office and give them your address and they can tell you who your State Rep. is.

Make sure you tell them State Representative, not Senator. You can call them or email them individually and leave a message in their office, but right now they have no say unless they are on the committee. Five of the 21 members of the committee are from Jefferson Co. You can go to: http://www.lrc.ky.gov/Committee/standing/Jud(H)/members.htm
and see a list of the committee members. If you click on the names, you will be taken to their individual information page with a rough map of their district, their phone numbers, photograph, address and email contacts.

The maps are very rough and you can't tell exactly where they start and stop, only their general location within Jefferson County. I urge you to call about this bill. We should all express our opinions on eveything they do in Frankfort, but don't get too upset. I don't think there is any chance of its passing, but I'm not taking that for granted.

If your Rep. happens to be Meeks or Marzian you are wasting your time. They will not care what you think. They are stridently anti gun and will support any type of gun control and oppose any gun friendly legislation, no matter how many calls or emails they get.The only constructive thing you can do for them is work to vote them out of office at the next election. That will be hard to do. Their districts are very liberal and those people like them just fine."
