Well, I do not see Veprs coming back. Those that came in via Atlantics firearms are almost as expensive as PTR 91s.
I decided to go and get myself a Galil. Almost an AK, almost.
I found that only two places make Galil:
Century Arms and EliteFirearms.net.
Century ARms managed to mangle their CETMEs so bad, that I am scared to buy anything from them. Besides, their Galil is in 5.56, not in 7.62 NATO or 7.62x39.
EliteFirearms in Texas, along with their Diamond Dave smell like a buncha crooks to me. First he promised to get me a Vepr II. Then, when I called him, he told me that he is closing the store. Now, when I asked him "hey, you told me you are closing the stoor" he mumbled something weird, and as soon as I asked him about Guarantee on his Galils, he hung up on me." That doesn't make him look like a reputable merchant.
Would anyone help me find a descent galil for a good price? Looking for:
5.56, 7.62x39, 7.62x51 models. Need to have a long, heavy barrel and a sturdy receiver. Don't care folding stock or not.
Please, help.

I actually would like one on a real Galil receiver. From what I understand (and I can be wrong), Saiga receivers are just normal 1mm stamped receivers, not very sturdy. For example Yugo M70 receivers are 1.6mm

I was referring to the .308 receiver, which I believe to be very strong.

I have no experience with the others, however.

AK clone pure and simple, with a bit of improvement in the sights and charging handle. The left side safety is different as well, but no real improvement.

The "Galils" at red jacket aren't galils--they're saigas with modifications.

A "real" galil is going to cost you A LOT. A century is on a real milled galil type and is about $900. An ORF looks nice, but is about $1500 (maybe a little more.)

If you're opposed to a 5.56, why don't you consider a milled bulgy AK? That's only like $5-600.

Oh, and that left side safety on a galil is about useless. You can thumb the heck out of it to get it from fire to safe, but good luck going the other way.
