I would greatly appreciate help with instructions on how to form 22/30-30 cases from 30-30. I have a set 250 savage dies to neck down and then use the 22/30-30 dies. I keep crunching the 30-30 cases in the 250 bullet seater die. I'm using the seater die first because it is a little bigger than the sizer. There is a small ridge inside the seater die that the case gets caught on and crunches.

Any help to point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

Go to RCBS and order forming dies for the .219 Zipper Imp. I've got a set and in two passes have got .30/30 cases to .25/35 Imp, and the third die takes it to the .219, which is, of course, a .22/30-30.
Fireform and you're good to go.
Have fun,

And don't forget you may need to ream or turn the necks to offset the thickness of the displaced brass. It's a real pain to put together some new ammunition and find out it won't chamber!

To Nevmavrick - thanks. I have a hodgepodge of dies that was inherited with the rifle and dont want to spend the $100+ for other dies. I will probably do this if current dies don't work out.

T0 Edarnold - so far I haven't had to ream the necks.

To kingmt - I took your sugestion and used the 250 savave sizer (removed stem) and it WORKED! Then I used the 22/30-30 seater die to step the case down a little more and then used the 22/30-30 sizer. Cases chamber great and bullets fit fine inside the neck. Would there be any problems arise from this process that I'm not aware of? Note that I'm using new winchester brass.

When should annealing take place? Before sizing down the 30-30 brass or after the 22/30-30 cases are created? Would annelaing before sizing down from 30-30 prevent less cases from crushing?

How do you control overall case length? I think its supposed to be 2.04". I have't been able to find a Lee case length gauge to use with my cordless drill. Would prefer not to use the old Lyman trimmer.

Thanks for the help guys.

I would use the least amount of steps that I had to & anneal should be done before & after sizing to extend case life.

What am I doing wrong?

I formed a bunch of used 30-30 brass down to 22/30-30 first with 250/3000 sizer die, then seater, then used 22/30-30 sizer to finish. However, I'm now using new 30-30 brass and crushing each case. I annealed several cases and that didn't help. Why would new 30-30 brass crush before the used brass?

What should I do differently?
