Help get an Appleseed shoot in AZ or NV!!

Las Vegas is now an option as well!
If you read Shotgun news I'm sure you know of Fred of Freds m14 stocks. His Appleseed shoots are exactly what we need around here(CA). Unfortunately no no one has anything scheduled farther west than the Texas panhandle.
We need to find a decent range in AZ if any of you guys want to help out with getting this thing organized please register at Freds forum and see the thread here-
http://www.rwva.org/yabbse/index.php?topic=919.0
I figure AZ would be best and allow us to use the OLL w/detachable mags and use them to their full potential.

"Boys, if you can shoot a rifle and hit a man at 500 yards, you don't need to read this. If you can't do it, then you need to learn how - otherwise when push comes to shove, someone is gonna tell you - when you show up with poor shooting skills - 'fellow, you need to be back with the cooks, so the real men will have something to eat when the shootin's done. See me again when you can shoot that thing like an American is supposed to be able to do."-Fred

A man, at 500yds, got any volunteers? J/K they usually set up the AQT using paper targets. I think the range or area we find to use will dictate what the setup will be like.
Look around on their forum and there are lots of pictures from previous shoots they've had.

I have been interested in this for several years. I have purchased and shot the AQT targets (and have posted at least one thread on this board about it). I never really understood what goes on at these shoots however. I assume there is instruction, shooting and coaching: that would seem logical.. :uhoh:
They had one of these in Wyoming a year to two ago. It was announced on this board. I was all ready to go to it. I asked a few questions about it and the guy that posted the thread was so obnoxious that I decided it wasn't worth my time.

There are certainly a number of rifle shooting venues in Arizona http://arizona.rifleshooting.com/
I don't know if any meet your criteria or not.

I shoot at a couple ranges here in the Las Vegas area that have 500 meter access.
Restrooms (male and female?)? No, Porta Johns.
Classroom, if any? Yes
Food and water available on premises? No
Distance from nearest population center? Less than five miles
Weekend hours of operation (esp, any restrictions on Sunday hours)? Yes
Parking (capacity, and, if not adjacent to the firing line, distance from the firing line)? More than enough parking adjacent to the firing line.
Weather: Is the range "all-weather"? Covered firing lines? Graveled/paved access and parking? What material is the firing line, the place where the shooters will lie - gravel, dirt, concrete, or what? Yes, Yes, Yes, concrete.
What about local places to stay, or camp out? This is Las Vegas, I think they might have a few hotel rooms somewhere :D The Redrock Station is right down the street from the club.

This club has hosted a number of national level competitions such as the Soldier of Fortune Three Gun Match.

Of course you said, Arizona.

You know what? Las Vegas might be a good idea, I never really considered it.
I'll throw it out on the table as another option. I'm just trying to get something out here in the west, and I know CA is probably the worst option.

I think maybe alot of people from LA might even like the drive to NV better.

Got some more info on the NV range? Links?

There are at least two ranges in this area that go out to 500 meters. That isn't the problem. After I read the material, I realized that problem is going to be shooting at 25 meters. But, if you are serious, we can see what we can work out.
The name of the club I am a member of is Desert Sportsmans. They don't have a website. The other club is Boulder City. I don't know if they have a website either.
Desert Sportsmans is simple to get to. Take I-15 North from SoCal. Get off on I-215 West. Exit at Charleston. Head West about two miles and you are there. There is a major casino/hotel right at that exit. There are several more relatively close.

I am active at that club in a disipline we call Vintage Military Bolt Action Rifle (second Saturday of the month) and Vintage Military Semi-Auto Rifle (third Saturday of the month). Obviously, we are using rifles like M1As, M1s, FALs, HK G3s, etc. We shoot steel plates out to just shy of 400 yards. These people would be interested in the type of shooting you do. I have been involved in both sports since the beginning and know the match directors as good friends. They might have a better chance of getting something like this on than I would.

Hey man that sounds promising so far, get in touch with your friends and see what they think about this. I think we're looking at sometime in the fall or early next year since the "tour" is booked until then.

I think if we can nail down an actual location and then a date, it will make it easier for all the fence sitters to climb aboard.

Thanks for your help with this, I was hoping to get more feedback and support.

Get back to me on this in a couple weeks.
I am tied up until then.
Taking two shooting school classes with a week vacation in between.

RobT2K I am interested in helping to get this to happen, what can i do?

Would getting some of the color brochures to spred around work?

C'mon guys in NV,AZ,CA,NM,UT and CO lets do this!

Well I don't have any info on potential sites in AZ that could host this. Maybe some links or info on some ranges that would be suitable for this.

I really hope we can get the word out and make this happen, but so far the level of apathy and laziness I'm seeing from my fellow CA shooters is pathetic.

They are all about discussing the latest and greatest tacti-cool accessories for their new CA legal AR's, but learn how to shoot them to riflemans standards? They just keep on walkin'

I was just reading a little bit about that AZ site and it seems really nice. I was just wondering which form we would need to fill out to reserve the space?
There is one on there which is just for informal groups, and seems cheaper, but someone with an AZ homeowners policy would have to get their provider to give them a certificate of liability. It's similar to what you need to get if you're renting a hall or something for a wedding.
Or do you guys bring your own insurance if the range requests it for a group?

Appleseed Shoot

Gentlemen,

I recently "organized" (I use that term loosely...RWVA did almost ALL the work) a shoot in Birmingham, Alabama.

It was outstanding, the team from RVWA were incredible and FRED is truely a Great American.

Do whatever you must to get this together. If I can help in any way, let me know.

Good Luck.

444 whats the word on the ranges in your area?
RobT2k would getting some of the colored brocures to put in gun shops help?

I'm up for either the LasVegas or the Phoenix area(i want to use my normal mags thanks:D  )

C'mon guys and girls lets do this.

Well I'm a member at the BRPC range in Boulder City and I guess 444 is a member at Desert Sportsman's Club.

The DSC would be a MUCH better choice because of its close proximity to 3 major hotel-casinos. It's easier to get to.

BRPC is about 30 to 45 minutes drive from Vegas, but there is a hotel-casino closer, so the drive for visitors wouldn't be bad. BRPC has NO in-door facilities, and only a few porta-johns. The one thing it does have in it's favor is that you can use the 25yd (4), 50yd (2), 75yd (2) and 100yd (2) shooting pits while the 600yd range is in use. There is capacity for 1000yd shooting, but they have to shut down the rest of the facility in order to do that.

I don't know if the color brochures will help, but they sure couldn't hurt!

I cross posted this announcement on most boards I'm a member of and now we're trying to get everyone on the same page over on the RWVA forum. You can find a link to the thread in my sig.

This way we can get some faster feedback from the guys over at Freds.

So far it sounds like the AZ shoot is trying to be scheduled in Nov.

At least take a look over there and sign up if you want to make any suggestions.
Thanks--Robert
