Brock's Gap Trainging Center (formerly Steel City Shooting Sports Assoc or SCSSA) will be holding one day mini shoot on Saturday November 4th, 2006.
8:00 a.m. until dark or out of Ammo.
What's an Appleseed Shoot you ask? From the Appleseed project website (http://www.rwva.org/yabbse/index.php?topic=457.0 ):
In the early 1800's, one man traveled the Northwest Territory (now known as Ohio), planting Apple orchards all along the Ohio river. His efforts helped our fledgling country to gain a toehold in the wilderness and his fellow citizens to maintain their independence. His name was Jonathan Chapman, otherwise know by posterity as Johnny Appleseed, and his spirit lives on. Now we're using his example as an inspiration to help accomplish something even more important: teaching basic rifle marksmanship.
With your help, we'll spread the American tradition of practical rifle marksmanship across our great land. We'll work together to find or create the facilities and resources to allow every able and willing citizen to learn to shoot a rifle safely and well close to home. We'll help each other gain the skills and equipment needed to defend our country, if the need arises.
Topics of the Appleseed Shoot include; Six steps of firing the shot, prone position, sitting position, standing position, sling usage, npoa, inches/minutes/ clicks, come ups, adjusting (your) sights, Six o'clock holds, Center holds and many other valuable rifleman skills. As much fun as it is to learn new things, the Appleseed is not a classroom setting, but a good mix of instruction with a lot of hands-on, live fire practice of what you learn.
Come join the fun and bring a friend. The Appleseed program is a great way to introduce new shooters to the sport. You don't need any special equipment other than the rifle of your choice, some ammo and some type of ground cover like an old piece of carpet or heavy blanket. For more information or to register for the mini shoots, contact Larry Thomas ([email protected]) or at (205) 936-3600. You can learn more about the Appleseed program and the FAQs at http://www.rwva.org/yabbse/index.php .
Registration by e-mail. One Day shoot cost is $45.00. This includes targets and training.
