I have a Ruger GP100 3" barrel, and today I took off the stock grips and put some Hogues on. When I was taking off the grips a small brass pin about 1" long and fairly thin fell out from some where. I put the Hogues on and the gun functions fine, meaning I dry fired it, but have not shot ammo.

Does anyone know what it was? I'm hoping it was just a part of the factory grips and its no big deal. I still have the pin.

Thanks.

If you look at the stock grips you removed (under where the inlays go) you will find on one side a slot for that pin. It is a tool/implement to aid in disassembly of the revolver past the point of what is required for normal cleaning.

I've never actually used mine.

Try not to lose yours.

Also, I have the Hogues and put the originals back on. I think they actually work better. My Hogues were thrown in on the trade.

The pin is used to unload the hammer from the mainspring so you can dissasemble the gun. Go to the Ruger site to download the manual if you don't have one.

You have just proven that you're within the top 1% or so of the population. Almost everyone who owns a Ruger DA revolver manages to lose that pin, and almost no one notices when it falls out! :D
