looking for a super accurate, reliable semi auto .308 rifle. I already have a bushnell elite 6500 2.5-16x50 scope to go on it. I will mainly be using it to hunt larger game (hogs, exotic deer, coyotes etc) and at the range at distances between 100-400 yds. I would like to know what is the most accurate gun to buy with a 1400$$ budget.
Thanks

Probably a lower end AR10 or the FNAR. The FN is supposedly capable of sub MOA accuracy with match ammo.

Granted it is only one rifle, but my experience is that the FNAR is a very accurate semi auto, consistently holding sub MOA 5 shot groups. Depending on what your hunting consists off it might be worth noting it is a relatively heavy gun.

There are various AR type guns that are also very accurate. I'm not up to date on what the current going rate for them is though so I'll refrain from naming specifics.

It might be worth noting that if 400 yards is the outer limit of your shooting you likely do not need the very most accurate gun possible to make ethical, clean and consistent shots on game at that distance.

I have to agree there... A sub-MOA rifle would serve you well, but then again, so would a Saiga .308.

Another vote for the FNAR-have one...it is VERY accurate, low recoil, IMO relatively lightweight for what it is.

Only knock I ever really hear is that it's hard to clean-I'm no expert, but don't find it particularly difficult to clean-there's a really good video on Youtube that takes the fellas less than 10 minutes, so I really don't see the merits of the argument.

LOVE mine

My uncle has the FNAR and I have a little trigger time with it. I think it's a fantastic rifle and was pretty accurate with everything we put through it.

I can personally vouch for the DPMS LR-308B, mine is easily a sub MOA rifle with most match ammo and a 1/2 MOA rifle with some match ammo.

My best 5-shot group @ 100 yards with factory Hornady 168g A-Max, it measures ~.45" and about ~.25" without the flyer ;) ...

The basic LR-308B's run about $1,100. Mine has an A3 Upper, Fluted Barrel, Miculek break, and JP trigger from the factory and I paid $1,350 for it NIB.

The only real downside is the weight fully outfitted with scope, bipod, and 20 round magazine. Other than that, I don't think there are any other semi-auto .308's that would shoot better regardless of the money spent. Its soft shooting and very accurate, a deadly combo for a DMR type weapon.

+1 for the DPMS LR308. I have been getting exceptional groups with my AP4 and 165 grain SST's in my hand loads.

Look into the Weatherby Mark V's.
Edit: Oh. Semi-auto. Sorry. Look at some of the DPMS rifles.

Have 2 dpms lr308s (sass and ap4). Both are very accurate and sub moa with my pet loads.

A DPMS LR-308 would suit you very well. I would get one of the lighter-profile barreled ones if you are going to take it into the woods with you. Most are sub-MOA with the right load... more than enough accuracy for clean kills out to 400 yards, if you know what you're doing.

If weight doesn't bother you and price isn't such an issue then an AR10 would work well. I have both a standard BAR and an FNAR light 20" that are both excellent rifles. The only downside to the FNAR is the magazine prices right now, the rifle itself is available for $999.

I've been very satisfied with my FNAR 20" heavy barrel and it will do better than 1 MOA with factory ammo as was already mentioned. Once things cool down a bit, I'll see how well some hand loads will do. FWIW, mine went back to the factory for an accuracy issue. It came back with a new barrel and the sub-MOA proofing target. Good customer service and no push back when I told them it was shooting very poor groups.

The mags are not cheap....but they are rugged.
