I just put deposit on a model 34. I saw it in the used section of a gun shop and it was under 500.00 Great shape and it felt like it had an action job cuase it was smooth and locked up pretty tight. It also had the target grips.

I don't have the gun yet, but I do have the serial number. How can I find out what year or version this gun is. When I get it I'll post photos. I've been looking on gunbroker and these start at well over 500 unless it's in medium shape. Comparable models are around 600.00

Give us the serial# (M123xxx) and one of us will be able to tell you.

serial number is M42xxx

This is what's on my reciept, I only left a deposit, I haven't picked it up yet. Maybe I should go back this weekend and see if it's a square or round but or what the model number is on the frame when I open the cylinder.

The M prefix was used for rimfire J frames from 1969 to 1981. Between 1971 & 1973 the serial range was M30001 to M60000.
If blued or nickeled with a two or four inch barrel then it is a Model 34-1.
If Stainless steel with a four inch barrel then it is a Model 63.
If blued with a six inch barrel it is a Model 35.
If it has an aluminum frame then it is a Model 43.
If in .22 Magnum then it is a Model 51.
