I have a chance to pick up one of two N-frames at a price so low that I'm not at liberty to say

One is a Performance Center M627-5 V-Comp (upper gun in the picture)

...and the other is a Performance Center M625-8 (lower gun in the picture)

I have another M27 and I don't have a M25, but neither gun fits into any shooting competition venue that I shoot. I'm trying to decide and I can only get one. I know the 627 has a higher value than the 625, but I find the 625 a more graceful gun.

Looking for input and opinions

I agree, the 625 has more eye appeal, but I would give the nod to the one that has the best trigger. To me, the trigger and grip feel are the most important characteristics.

Sorry, but I am partial to the M-27 and I have one of the discontinued 5" models.
But I have always wanted a M-57 in N frame.
But a stainless 8 shot .357 will be my choice if I could get it in 5"
But that is just me.
But I dont think you would be going wrong with either.
It all boils down to personel prefferance, but you are in the right market with the N frame.

Are you going to compete with the gun? Either is good for competition.

Are you going to carry it? I like the moonclipped 45, but eight rounds of 357 Magnum is very nice.

Which caliber do you reload for? Do you have more 357 or 45 ammo onhand?

Of the two, I prefer the V-Comp by looks alone.

That is a tough call. Probably the 625, but I could go for that 627. In the end, I would spend some time fondling each and see which one is put together the best and go with that one.

I'd have to go with the lower gun in the second picture.

I'm no longer strong enough to hold up the upper gun in the first picture!!

Or able to afford enough cow leather to make a holster for it.
Or carry it if I could.

And if I can't hold it up, or carry it?
I wouldn't buy it.

But that's just me.
And the way me and my revolvers roll.

ICORE? 627 V Comp.

IPSC/USPSA? 625.

If you have any desire to use it in competition, I vote 627. AFAIK, USPSA has allowed temporary use of the 8-shot 627 in competition. It'll likely stick, and, if so, the 625 may become obsolete, and the 627 will be de rigueur in everything but IDPA.

OTOH, if you'll not compete with it, the 625 might be funner. It's got more style, too. ;)

The 627 V comp is ported & thus illegal in USPSA revolver. If the optional blank barrel cap is fitted then it can be used under current revolver division rules, load 8 but only shoot 6 before reloading. Otherwise welcome to open division.

IIRC in January the USPSA BOD will probably authorize 8 shot minor, 6 shot major in revolver division. The 627 will then have an edge on stages designed for autos, the 625 will probably will on stages designed for revolvers, due to the power factor score advantage.

Again, I would negotiate for the 627 8 Times. Can be used in ICORE, & USPSA revolver, production, & limited 10. has a much nicer balance than the V Comp.

If limited to the OPs two picks, and simply buying it to have, then the 625 wins as I find it aesthetically pleasing.

An N-Frame allows a bunch of rounds, but is unnecessarily heavy for .357 IMO.

Punch two extra holes in the cylinder and it gets lighter...

FWIW I think the weight and balance of my Model 28 is just right.

I've never liked the v comp variants of the PC guns. Hideous IMO. That doesn't mean it's a bad gun though.

A 625 would be a fun gun to shoot and to say it is more graceful than the v comp is an understatement. I'd get the 625.

Good luck!

Well I own 4 N-Frames Models 27,29 and M25 so you can see I like the big frames. But if the price is that good I would buy both, shoot both and then sell one at a profit. The only thing I care about the 357 is one can load/buy the plain old 38 special at good prices and shoot a lot. The 44 mags day has come and gone IMO, except for hunting, and the 45C, well it is the 45 Colt.

OOPS...........Looking at the photos I see my mistake. The 625 is in 45ACP. My bad. Don't care for the 45ACP except in the 1911 styles.

If I understand what I am seeing and those are muzzle brakes on the 627, then the gun may be uncomfortably loud if you ever have occasion to shoot it in the field with full power loads without ear protection. For that reason I would choose the 625. Really, though, you can't go wrong. What a nice dilemma.

I would go V-comp hands down as I have a prelock model if that lock model shoots half as good you will be very happy, that said I got a 625-2 that does not disappoint!! I don't think you could go wrong with either just which look do you prefer?

The 625 says ".357 Magnum - 8 times" on the barrel. Grant you, 625 (JM) may be commonly known as .45 ACP, but not the gun in this picture.

My preference? The S&W 627 8 Times.
Mine too, but he just sold that one. The other buyer couldn't decide and finally chose the 8 Times

He doesn't have the barrel cap, he can't even find the aluminum cases they came in

I was leaning that way. If I liked the 627 enough, I might sell my Davis tuned 8.375" M27-2...but then I'd have to send the 627 to Randy to slick up

Well I hate the Internal Lock so I would likely pass but to help you choose I would go with 357 times 8.
He also has non-lock models like the M25-2 {lower gun}...but I don't want another blued gun (the M29 {upper}is pending sale)

...and the Nickled 8.375" M27 was just too shinny
