Jump on that FEG High Power! You can't go wrong with a good Hungarian High Power clone. I have had mine 25 years or more and it has never once malfunctioned.

this^^^^^^Feg makes quality guns.

I'd suggest you take a good look at the Canik 55 Tri-Star L120 CZ75 clone in 9mm. I bought mine for under $300 and it is a great gun with a feel similar to the Browning HP. It uses CZ magazines from MecGar that you can find fairly easily for not too much and has a light weight alloy frame. I've found it to be both accurate and reliable with excellent Single and DA trigger pull.

For a range gun I prefer an all metal hammer fired SA or SA/DA gun over a DA only striker fired gun like you mostly have on your list. While I do mainly carry striker fired polymer framed guns for CCW/self defense, Glock 19 and KelTec P3AT because of their simplicity of use, compact nature, rust resistant material and light weight, they are second choice when shooting paper and steel for competition or fun.

That is NOT a new pistol.
The line isn't, but the E is. I don't see any major issues since it's just a slight tweak for budget, but I just don't usually go with new model until its had a awhile to prove it doesn't have any kinks to work out. That goes for cars, electronics, guns, etc.

Canik S120 ... CZ75B clone. Got mine for $329. Well made. So far not single failure thru 500 rounds. Shoots very well.

Well, everyone, thank you for all your input.... But as they say, "the people have spoken". The 9E had the most overall votes, and that comforted me in my decision. I went to my local gun store today, talked to them, they called their wholesaler, we talked price, and I got a Ruger 9E ordered for $350 out the door exactly. Obviously this price allowed them to make their profit, but they are good people and I got a heck of a pistol (hopefully). I should have it by the weekend!

Thank you everyone for the input, I will always reference this thread when I want a new budget gun or I talk to someone in a similar situation to me. Your experiences and opinions will all be invaluable to me!!!

Please send us a range report when you can! Those are supposed to be excellent pistols. I'm sure you will love it.

In an ironic turn of events, I was a little leery of the SW40VE... but I just now purchased one. It is supposed to be "LNIB" with two magazines. I didn't think I could possibly win the auction for only $231, but I did. :)

I voted for the S&W SD9 VE. It's a gun that has been around for a while now so most of the "kinks" should be worked out and there are plenty of aftermarket parts for them. Also it comes with a front night sight, and I have nothing but good things to say their customer service.

Quick note: The VE models don't have the night sight.

The 9E isn't very easy to find, and when you can, they aren't priced much less than an SR9 which has 2 mags.

$359 for a 9E

CDNN has the SR9 for $379 and it comes with 2 mags vs. 1, well worth the extra $20. Also there are a lot of lightly used SR9s on places like Armslist and Gunbroker. I recently got a lightly used SR9 in stainless with 3 mags for $350 face to face.

Only problem is most SR9s in the gun stores are around $420ish around here. And if I go online, I have to add around $40 for an ffl transfer plus $5 for PA's background check. So $375 will turn into the $420 pretty quick. I got the 9E for $350 out the door including tax, title, check.... So I guess it depends on local markets

I know you already made your choice, but I voted 'other' and was going to suggest a SigPro 2022 or 2009

I know, but they do come around now and then for $350 online. Palmetto State Armory usually.

Shoot what you bought and enjoy it.

I voted other. For a little bit more then your $350. price I have found several quality 9mm over the last few years. All Police trade-in guns, Sig 226 from Windners, Sig 228 from them also. Got a Pre B Cz 75 for about $350 as I recal. Local shop has a bunch of S$W turn-in's right now.

Assuming the SR9e is comparable to my SR9c (I can't fathom why it would not be, they only removed useless options) then it's gonna be hard to beat for a budget 9mm. My compact is reliable, accurate, has an outstanding trigger and a pure joy to shoot. Should I have a few extra $$ and want a full size 9mm, it'll be hard not to buy a full size SR9.

If I had a few more bucks to spend, it would definitely be the SIGpro 2022.

Might not actually be a bad idea to save a few more and get one. They are excellent firearms as well. I don't care for the DA/SA trigger and the mags are a) hard to find and b) expensive though.

Favorites.

I almost went with the SARS B6 but I like the K2P better. It is a little more money but I like the finish and the sights. Of all of the less expensive 9mm's that come thru my shop my favorites are the K2P and the Sig 2022. You can't go wrong with either. Both are a lot of gun for the money.

I voted for the Ruger SR9E as I have an SR9c and find that it's a reliable pistol with great ergonomics (at least for my hand size), has a decent trigger and sights, and overall build quality is at a fairly high level. I consider it a great buy for your money.
