Help me find a .22 rifle

T/C has a great reputation for it's Rimfires. I've found Savage to offer nice bang for the buck. And, as some other said, you can't go wrong with the Marlin.

Ruger 10/22T The "T" indicates the Target model. It comes with a beter trigger and a heavy target barrel along with a tighter chamber so it is quite accurate with decent ammo.
It doesn't come with a front sight so a red dot or a scope is necessary.
A person can build the equilivent with all the aftermarket "stuff" out there but the final price will be nearly the same.
I own some standard 10/22s but they are generally too light, too short and not quite accurate enough to hold my interest for long but the 10/22 T solves most all these problems.
Standard 10/22s can be cheep fun, marlin 60s are touted as just as good,M39s and other lever guns can be a hoot but I find the 10/22Ts full size gun ballance, fine accuracy and reasonable price to make it my second most favered .22 .
My most favored and most used .22 is the Ceiner Rimfire conversion but this fine unit is not really a good choice unless one has an AR rifle

Just bought my first .22 rifle today.

First owned, not first shot. Grew up shooting a bolt gun and a Remington pumper that my dad had. Have shot others. But I'd been thinking lately that I really want a .22 rifle, and I've shot a few Marlin 60s over the years and loved them.

Anyway, today I went to the gun store for other purposes, and what to my wandering eyes did appear, but a Marlin 60 with scope for $89. Add the $10 state fee, and it was mine for just under $100. And then the owners took me out to lunch. Nice people!

If you check Gunbroker.com, you'll see that some have recently sold for $59 to $105, plus shipping and transfer fees. So if you can find one local like I did, you should be able to get it around $80-$100.

Not to hi-jack this thread, but I noticed that someone mentioned K-Mart as selling rifles. I was under the impression that they had quit selling handgun ammo etc. years ago. On that note I decided not to do business with them and haven't since. So they still sell long arms?

Go with a Ruger 10/22. Accurate, reasonable priced and about a million extras made for it. The small block chevy of .22s.

Well, I was going to say that in Washington, you can probably get one for around $149 on sale at Bi-Mart, but looking at their website http://www.bimart.com/locations.aspx there really aren't any stores that close to you in Bellingham.

I was thinking of getting one till I picked up the Marlin yesterday. Of course, I still may get one someday, but for now my itch is scratched.

Yep, i picked up my remington 597 in great condition it a 4x scope for $125 at a pawnshop. I dont regret that decision at all.

My apology, I should have phrased my statement a bit differently. K-mart is "phasing out" rifles and ammo. It has now been taken out of one of our two kmarts, but, last time I checked there was a Model 60 for $135.00. Now, there is NO ammo and two single shot shotguns left in the second kmart.
They have effectively lost me as a customer due to their sorry-ass capitulation to the left-wing socialist gun grabbing minority. But! I'm not bitter! :D

AK22! Wow. I had no idea that existed. Looks like they make a rimfire AR as well. I don't know though. Seems a bit silly to me. The fun of a .22 is getting a nice accurate one and plinking. I'll bet you lose a lot of accuracy with those AK and AR lookalikes.

I'd like to see some serious review work done on that .22 AK.
I have a growing fondness for things Kalishnikov that go BANG!

I imagine you could throw it in the mud, run over it with a Silverado, direct a cattle stampede over it, take it out and pee on it and it'll still fire. :D

I'd settle for just an accuracy and feed reliablility test though.

My personal favorite is an OLDER Marlin model 60. 18 shot tubular magazine, semi-auto, 22" barrel. Can accept a scope over the blade sites. Gun shows, internet sites, some pawn shops will carry them. I do suggest you find one to get a feel of it before you decide to buy off the internet though.

With ammo, .22's are a fickle bunch. You will probably need to run a number of brands and weights through your particular rifle to find out what it likes. The Mod. 60 I used to have LOVED the CCI stingers.

Whatever you decide to purchase, you're going to have some serious fun with it, and anytime you need some advice or want to throw out an idea you want to try, there's a bunch of us here that will be glad to help you out!!!

I love my little Mossberg Plinkster. It's cheap as can be (I think I paid just $99+tax for it at Wal Mart), it comes in a few different flavours (I bought the black plastic stock, blued metal but it comes in chrome and wood varieties) and it digests pretty much any sort of .22lr I can feed it, brick at a time with no hiccups at all. Hits what I aim at too (as much as any rifle does with me behind the sights anyway).

I will admit I am wanting to trade mine, but that's because I need a 12 gauge and money is tight (I want a second SKS to tinker with, so the gun budget is shot right now!).
