Help me find a gun that matches these criteria...

I second any CZ suggestion. The only problem with those guns is they are similar to Pokemon - gotta get them all.
My main CCW is a Sig 232 in two tone.
My secondary CCW is a Ruger LCP (when I go out on calls in the middle of the night).
If it helps my hands are 6 inches from palm to middle finger tip and 3 inches across - they are smallish. (I am also only 5 feet tall)
As a female I'd shoot/carry any of the above recommended guns but I do love CZs - I also own a 75BD. I like a decocker but the LCP doesn't have one. I don't mind the absence of a decocker on an LCP either.
Good luck in your search!

first thing that popped into my mind is a used HK USPc in 9mm. A bit on the heavier side, but unloaded weighs only 23.5 oz according to the website. Has a hammer, the variant 1 has external safety and decocker (so its SA/DA). Built like a tank and runs phenomenally and you can usually find a good used on for 600 or less.

Otherwise, I don't think you can go wrong with a used Sig 228/229 or a CZ.

Personally I like a safety, decocking lever, and external hammer. They give me the feel of total control of the weapon. I have owned many different types of hand guns and the Beretta PX4 would be a very good choice given your criteria. I have owned one and it has been flawless and accurate. Note however that a 7 inch 26 oz gun isn't a carry gun. If she wants to carry, then get the smallest Storm. Another option would be a Sig P238 which is a .380. Personally I feel that H&K's and Sig's are overpriced however (but great guns no doubt). If you drop the need for the hammer, safety, and decocker, then I would give serious consideration to a Glock 26 or a Springfield XD/XDM - also great guns, but at a fair price.

I haven't read all the responses but it seems as though the Walther PK380 fits your needs. I recently bought one for my wife after she lost the ability to pull back the slide on her Glock 23. It is an over sized .380 so has fairly light kick, very controllable, fits the hand well and is very inexpensive. You can almost buy 2 for your $600.

My wife loves her PX4 9mm. I let her pick the gun she wanted, and only chimed in on its handling characteristics and reliability. The decision was totally hers, and I think that is very important. A lot of people want to "tell", or direct, someone into a particular gun for whatever reason (personal bias, etc.), when we should be merely helping the person find something that fits them. It looks like she has a particular list of features many guns do not have; so if she likes the PX4, just stick with it, and leave the rest alone. That's my opinion.

One of the things that drew my wife to the PX4 was the capacity, because she understands that anything can happen under stress, and that the trend these days is multiple attackers. She is not as proficient as I, nor does she want to be (not her idea of a hobby). She likes to practice, and has taken a decent basic "tactical" class, and she is happy with that. I know capacity is not everything, but it is something, so why intentionally handicap someone when you don't have to?

Ditto the CZ P-01... Great Gun!!!... about $550+ NIB.
Or, the CZ-82... Nice size, very accurate, easy shoot and about $200 Used!!!

Only thing, 'having-been-there and done that', make sure your lady can easily rack-the-slide.
If this is a problem or she can't, whatever gun YOU choose just ain't gonna work!!!

I vote sig p6, I love mine to death and don't even really care for 9mm, but that gun runs every bit as good as my 1300$ 1911 any day of te week

If you drop a few of those criteria -- namely the decocker and external hammer, the SR9 is a fantastic pick for $200 less than your budgeted price.
If you want to retain the decocker and are okay with the lack of ext. hammer, try finding a German made **NON-S&W** Walther P99

How about:

FNP9
5517919642_204732903b_z.png

Requirements:
1)9mm Check
2)a midsize pistol....somewhere close to 7" in length Overall 7.4
3)decocker external safety Check
4)not to heavy, not to light.....24-27oz? 24 oz empty
5)external hammer Check
6) da/sa Check
7)about 600 bucks(quality used guns would be considered) Buy Now $450

The FNP is a GREAT shooter. It will eat every type of ammo you can feed it and not even blink. It comes with 3 magazines which its plenty for a beginner shooter and even the advanced shooter! I was hesitant when I bought mine because I had never handled it before but  Its a great pistol, especially for a women. My girlfriend always complain about how some of my pistols kicked and she would only put a very limited amount down range before it start it hurt her wrists. She has made my FNP "her" gun. :cuss: She could shoot 500 rounds in one range visit and not worry about fatigue or wrist pain. Its the first pistol she reaches for when we go shooting.

You definitely cant go wrong with the FNP but there are some other good choices out there as well. I have been considering the S&W M&P9, Sig 228, Ruger SR9/SR9c, S&W 3913 or the budget line, and last but not least the Bersa Thunder 9 and 9 compact variety. All theses I have mentioned had been in my sights for a while. I owned a 228 and loved it but it was a a tad on the heavy side (26 oz empty) for my girlfriend.

The M&P9 or 9c are definitely in my future. I have heard nothing but good reviews out there and they have plenty of upgrades available already. They also come in at a great price: M&P9 $449 The S&W 3913 are great shooters and I recently almost pulled the trigger on one but they were just to hard to find and a little pricey. THe budget line are also great pistols. Look at the 908s. They are very similar to the famous 3913 but just dont include all the fancy extras like ambi safety.

Anyways good luck and hope this helped! Also post pictures of whatever you get!

I 2nd that on the Ruger SR9, I just recently purchased one in April, and being left-handed it really suits me and it has been extremely accurate and so far reliable.
Just my 2cents,
Marcus:)

What about a Makarov? It's as reliable as a revolver, 9X18 is cheap and a bit more powerful than .380. The gun weighs 26 oz and is one accurate, easy-to-shoot sucker. You can use the rest of your budgeted money to buy a ton of ammo.

That has the CZ75D Compact (PCR) written all over it. Or, if you don't mind a discontinued used gun, the S&W 3913.

If we kill a few of your specs that really aren't nessasary, or truely aren't a big deal, it really opens up your choices.

If she wants them, they're necessary... and a big deal.

It's not a really short list that meets her criteria anyway.

Why a hammer? Because that's the way a handgun is supposed to be. Sheesh...:stirpot:

C'mon... admit it... you are DIEING to say "get a Glock." You know you are...

The hk USPc 9mm would be a good choice. DA/SA. polymer frame gun so its light weight. You can get it with just a decocker or decocker and safter. Great reliable gun
