Well.... as I have competed in more and more 3 gun competition, I have realized that I want a handgun more purpose-oriented to competition. Now, I am currently shooting a stock M&P9 but I am wanting to switch to the Glock. Now, my other option is an M&P Pro (5"), but I cannot find one that is for sale at the moment.

Now first off, what would you guys recommend?

Secondly, if I were to get the Glock, what upgrades would y'all recommend? Right now I am wanting to add a Dawson Precision fiber optic front sight with a Heine rear, and upgraded trigger spring and a 3.5 lb connector. What model connector and trigger spring do y'all recommend?

This would not be my first Glock, I already have a 19 so I am not venturing into uncharted territory ;)

**While I do shoot USPSA sometimes, I am not worried about having to shoot minor. I shoot much more 3-gun so that is what I am catering to.

Glock, mostly because of the stock trigger.

Already has a 3.5lb connector (well... it used to be called the 3.5, now it's the 4.5), and the reset is so much better than any stock M&P I've used.

All the M&P really offers for ME is a beavertail. I get some slide rubbing on the full-sized 9/40/357 Glocks. YMMV, of course. Also, the factory sights are nice on the 5" M&P's, but I'd still put 10-8's on whatever gun I got, so it wouldn't matter. Again.... YMMV.

Not one of your choices, but in the same category, you might consider, is the Springfield Armory XDm 5.25, which would be ready to go right out of the box

and your leaving STI out of the picture?

I don't have the money for an STI at the moment unfortunately.... But yes, once this poor college kid has a little more money that will be an addition ;)

And 9mmepiphany, I have shot XDm's on several occasions, and I just don't like them. The triggers on them have not been anything that I care for, and the depression for the grip safety just doesn't fit my hand well.

I got out today to shoot a worked up Glock 34, M&P Pro 5" and an STI. I shot both the Glock and M&P equally well for the most part, but I felt better with the Glock. The STI is a great gun (obviously), but again, I just can't afford it right now.

Then it really boils down to what divisions you want to play in and be competitive. while 3gun is sort of lackadaisical with so many varying rules. Changes in to your gun in USPSA could put you at disadvantage, not just Major/Minor.

I would be looking to change the connector to a Glockworx and also use their competition spring kit. I will change the sights as well, but I don't think that has any bearing on what division I shoot in USPSA, does it (still using iron sights)?

I had a glock 17 & 34 and now have a m&p 9. I shoot the m&p much better then the glocks and it feels more natural in my hand. That being said I still think the glocks are a fantastic pistols and still have a g26 for my daily carry piece. Oh and good luck finding mags for the m&p now!

Yeah, Johnny, that has been a huge problem as of late. I have 4 mags for my M&P right now, so while I'm not exactly 'set' in that regard, I do have enough to compete with. If I end up getting an M&P Pro then that would be another 2 mags so I would be set.

I have a Glock 34 Gen 4 that I use for Comp's right now. A lighter recoil spring will help keep the muzzle flip down. I'm using a 12 lb right now but I'll be experimenting with a 14 lb this summer to see which one works best.
A V4 connector will help smooth out the trigger and help with reset.

Have fun, it's a great gun.

OEM spring weight on glock34 gen4

Thanks for the spring info Coolluke01. What is the Original spring weight on glock34 gen4?

I don't see the PPQ being much competition to the M&P Pro or the Glock 34. It won't have the aftermarket, and therefore shooters will not be able to customize it to their liking. Will it have a better "stock" trigger? Perhaps, but I don't think it will be able to compete with a tuned trigger from either of the aforementioned pistols.

For those who have posted in this thread, I appreciate the feedback. I purchased a Glock 34 today and I will pick it up next Wednesday. Yes, there will be some pics when I have it in hand :)

Feel free to keep the thread going, I am sure that I won't be the last one to be faced with this decision ;)

I picked one up (NIB Gen 3) for $625 today. Armslist had a couple, they even had a Gen 4 with night sights and 3 mags with less than 200 rounds through it for about $650.

They are out there, it is just about finding them before someone else ;)

The soon to be released PPQ 5" should trump all these choices and have similar pricing

With a 15rd capacity in a gun that large. That puts you at a disadvantage right off the bat against either of the OPs choices.

Wow, I'm glad I didn't run into that Gen 4.... I'd be back to eating Ramen for a couple weeks.

I have a gen4 35 that I added a Zev mag well (just received it off back-order today) to and DP extended baseplates to the mags. It replaces a gen3 35 that had Warren sites (the fiber optic front is very nice), DP mag well and the 3.5lb trigger. I'm holding off on messing with the trigger and swapping the sights for now since both are working well for me out of the box. I also have a gen4 17 that I'm keeping stock for IDPA.

I don't think you'll be unhappy with the 34.

I have shot a couple 34s with the Zev Tech (Glockworx) connector and spring kits and have been impressed. I am still going to enjoy my M&P, but I did not want to lighten the trigger on my HD gun down to under 4 lbs.

After the connector and springs are changed, I will be going for new sights. Either a DP front with a Heine rear (black serrated), or a set of Warrens.... Just haven't decided yet

I'm a college kid.... So I feel your pain there ;) I got lucky with this Glock. It is my 21st birthday present from my parents.

I found that Chicken has a nice, piquant after-dinner flavor - heavy, but with a touch of mellow smoothness. :D

Just the connectors or the Fulcrum trigger assembly?
