Found this out near a shooting spot I go to occasionally. Not sure if I should report it, or if it's a dummy, spent smoke, or paintball grenade... don't want to waste anyone's time.

Didn't have anything better to do, so spent a few minutes getting myself onto who knows how many lists trying to figure out what it is, with no luck. As can be seen, the pin appears to be pulled, however that's as much as I got. There is a stamping on it labeled "FLI", which doesn't help me in my search.

Thanks for the info you can provide.

Also, this is out in the middle of the desert, but does have plenty of flammable material around it, so I would certainly hope it's not a real grenade/something that could cause a fire, but who knows. Off a side trail off a fire road that doesn't connect to anything, minimal traffic if any. No cover, so would seem to make a crappy spot to play paintball, but I suppose you could lay next to some sagebrush or something.

The hole in the side of it makes it APPEAR to be a dummy grenade.

However, not knowing the full history behind it, that's no guarantee that it's safe. Lots of dumb people consider trying to make a live grenade out of a dummy...even I considered it back in my younger days.

So, even if it IS a dummy grenade, it may still have been tampered with by someone wanting to make something that would go "BOOM!" out in the middle of nowhere.

And, not being EOD trained and on-site, I'd say the best avenue would be the prudent one...call it in and let professionals handle it. If it's a dummy...no harm done. If it's not...

I say fake. Carefully dig the dirt from the under side of the fuze so you can get a slip knot around it using 550 cord. Lay out a hundred feet or so and hook it to the back of your ATV. Give it the 20 MPH drag test for a 1/4 mile, if it don't go off it's a dud and good to disassemble. Also it looks blue in color which is practice.
