Help me not lust after a EAA Witness...

The elite has features you'll want later. You just won't know it until you realize you can't possibly give it up.

Given enough time I'll have match models in 38 super, 10mm and .45.

Um, is somebody shooting .40 out of a 10 barrel? Real bad idea...

Why get a 97B when you can get two Witnesses or one Witness and three caliber conversions for the price of the 97?

Elite Match indeed

Hi, new guy here. I'm mostly on XDtalk but found this thread googling Zastava EZ.

Anyway, I do wholeheartedly agree that the Match is a superb pistol. I have a .45 and I too expect I'll own a 9mm and perhaps a 10mm down the near term road although the .38 Super sounds interesting too.

I bought two extra mags and the G-Code Operator Series holster made for the Match from EAA. I placed the order and had the stuff in my mailbox in 4 days from Florida to Reno. Not bad at all.

This gun is a tack driver and it is becoming my favorite pistol. I currently own:

XD9 Subcompact with Heinie night sights
Taurus PT145SSP
CZ P-01 with Meprolights
Taurus PT1911 with Heinie night sights
Witness Elite Match .45

Here is my Match:

I wish I could...............

I just received two 9mm and one 45 ACP Elite Match pistols in the shop and they are beautiful!
The fit and feel of these handguns is taylor made for people with slightly large to large hands. They balance nicely and the action and triggers are outstanding. I like them so much I may keep one of the 9mms for myself.

Do not hesitate to get yourself one!

By the way, they have changed the sights on the Elite Match, not sure if they've changed them on their entire line or not.
However, I've read and heard some people complaining about them.

I do not see any problem with them. They are high quality adjustable sights. They are not the usual Bomar type adjustable that most are used to but they provide a really nice sight picture and are fully adjustable.

Caimlas let me try to help you "cooling down"....:D:D:D

I had the same experience, I was drooling over a Witness in 10 mm Auto and I could not believe the price..after all Tanfoglio has a very good reputation internationally.
So my wife bought me one for Christmas.

Had FTF and FTE issues from the start and with different ammo..tried lot of things, changed mag spring, recoil spring, tinkering with the magazine lips.
The feed ramp was perfectly polished, no burrs in the chamber...improved a bit but still high failure frequency, I could not get through one mag without problems.

EAA customer service is very poor, to say the least, you have to pay for shipping to and from (even Hi-Point pays for shipping back).

And I heard that people sent back their pistols back several times without the issues being resolved..someone paid in shipping charges more than the price of the handgun.

Specific problems for the 10 mm version:

Customer service is vague about what kind of ammo you can use, they told me more than once, categorically, NO to Double Tap, Buffalobore or Corbon...I wonder why, these loads are within SAAMI specs.
Seems they want you to use "soft" 10 mm loads, basically at 40 S&W level..so what's the point of owning a 10 mm???

The newer Witness (at least the standard model) have the new "rounded top" style slide and I heard from more than one source about cracked slides for the 10 mm.

To sum it up, even if I loved the look and balance of the pistol, I traded it for this (S&W 29 in .44 Magnum) and never looked back

Would I buy one again?? In a heartbeat if they make the rounded top slides stronger and I can count on a decent Customer Service..I think Tanfoglio should get rid of EAA and I been tempted to call them directly in Italy to report the problems.

I hope this helps.

P.S.

If you buy the 10 mm or the 45 ACP you can convert all the way down to .40 S&W, 38 Super, 9 mm and 22 LR.

If you buy a 40, a 9 mm or a 38 Super you can only convert between them and the 22 LR

Each conversion kit costs $229

Pricewise and for convertibility purposes, the best deal is if you can get the 45/22 combo with blued finishing

Reeek is right!

I pulled one of the .45 ACP Witness Elite Match pistols I had come in to call my own.
After 50 rounds down range tonight I can say this is one of the most accurate handguns I own.
No malfunctions of any kind, 25 ball and 25 Hornady hollow points.

I'm talking same hole accurate at 7 and 10 yards.
So, what's not to like?

It's two tone, blued slide, hard chromed reciever, single action trigger, which is one of the best triggers I've felt, not to mention it's right out of the box.
10 round capacity, adjustable sights, and no the new sights that replaced the Super Sights are not bad. They offer a really good sight picture. :D

I own both brands, and can say that in the 8 or so years of
the CZF Clone Club:

Most who own a Witness will eventually buy a CZ.
Same can be said for CZ owners who are lured by the
lower price and caliber options of the Witness.

The Witness lacks nite site options, but have great adjustables
on some models. My Witness 10 trigger is superior to a CZ75
trigger. Some might say otherwise, but Tanfoglio makes a
great copy or the stoic CZ75.

I don't have any experience and little knowledge of the
EAA - I shoot a S&W 1911 I bought at R.A.R. and R.A.R.
offers great loads in pistol ammo I have bought - I also own
and like my CZ 75B. I am also a firm believer in getting the
original thang but to each their own.;

Have owned both and found that I liked them equally, it's just that I liked my Browning a little more than the other two.

I gotta say that the Witness Elite Match pistols I own are IMO better than the CZs I've owned in every way.
I'm not talking about anything from the custom shop but your standard CZ 75 deviations.
I prefer the size of the Witness over the smaller CZs, they triggers are much, much better and the ones that I have shot have been more accurate.

I may be comparing apples and oranges when comparing a standard CZ to a Witness Elite but price wise they're in the same league.
:D

What's a good price on a 45 Witness Match Elite? I see one listed on gunbroker for $550+ $25 S&H. With the FFL transfer fee, it would come out to just under $600. Does that sound about right?

in a 9mm or 40S&W, i would lean towards the CZ, just because thats what they were designed for. But in 45ACP, 10mm or 38Super, i would get the Witness w/out hesitation.

The Match pistols are all the same price. My 10mm was $530 after 6% sales tax and the $10 shipping from my gun shops supplier. I told them, i wanted it around $525 because ive botught a few guns from them. They originally said it would be around $560-$575.
