Hello all,

A family member recently came on a few hundred dollars (~$350 at most) and wanted to buy me a Christmas gift. I would really like another gun - probably a pistol - and definitely something with some military heritage as I really like military history.

So far my family has:

Long Guns:

DSA FAL
Romanian WASR
Bushmaster AR-15
Ruger 10/22
Kel-Tec Sub-2000
Mossberg 590

Handguns:

Smith and Wesson K-Frame Model 15 .38sp
CZ-75 SP-01 and .22lr CZ "Kadet" Kit
Glock 19

I really want something with military heritage and I really don't want to go outside the calibers I already stock (.38sp/9mm/7.62x39/7.62x51(.308)/.22lr/12ga)

I'm really leaning towards the West German Sig P6's in 9mm - What do you think? I could really make use of another nice carry pistol.

How about a cheap-o Polish Makarov? (although I would have to buy 9x18mm ammunition) I borrowed one of these once and enjoyed carrying it for its tiny size.

Maybe an SKS? Although I don't really want any more long guns right now... And I would also need to stock up on stripper clips...Also thinking about a Mosin but - again - don't want to have to buy 7.62x54.

What do you guys think about picking up a P6? Any other thoughts on military-inspired guns for under $400 (especially in calibers I stock)?

(Of course I would love to get a Mini-14/30; 1911; Garand; AK-clone; many others but I need to stay around $350 plus holster/mags)

You're onto something - but I already have a gang of ammo and I really just enjoy collecting militaria.

In that price range, I would be looking at a Cz-82 or a Tokarev. A Moisin, maybe...they are cheap enough that $300 would cover the rifle and a considerable stock of ammuniton, even if you were going through a dealer.

Hmmm....

I'm starting to think a gun as a christmas gift is no longer such a good idea. Not to beat a dead horse, but I looked up WASR AK prices - I paid $350 1.5 years ago and now they are $500+! Thought about getting a second Romanian AK - NOT NOW!

Sig P6's sell for no less than $350 with one magazine while my friend got the first batch from Gander Mountain a while back for $150 with two mags and a holster.

I like the Mosin idea but I REALLY don't want to start stocking another caliber and I'm not that worried that this is a gun I can't obtain in the future.

SKS prices seem to be going as nuts as WASR's/AK's. (I want an SKS - not at this price).

It seems like maybe I will go for a cheap-o $200 Polish Makarov and 50 dollars of 9x18. Maybe I will stock up on nice leather holsters for my pistols. I don't know...this is really disappointing. I was sure I would have a good quality P6 in my hands for about $300 with 2 magazines when I started thinking about them a few months ago.

I already have a lot of guns. I don't need more guns. But I love militaria. Would the wiser decision be to just spend my money on something else until prices come down?

Is there some other nice military firearm I don't know about yet? (a la the $150 P6's early in the summer...)
