Hello I want to get a Husqvarna Commercial FN98 Mauser chambered in either 8x57 Mauser or 30-06. I reload so caliber does not matter. The prices are in Canadian dollars (so they probably are higher than what you see in the US). Thanks! The descriptions are from the dealer. Customers say that he is very modest with his descriptions and rifles are in way better condition than described.

#1 is out of the running

#4 Husqvarna Commercial FN98 in 30-06. Very good bore. D&T for weaver type bases. Stock marred on left side of trigger guard. Shows

The 30-06 all day. Why? Its a 30-06. What can I say, I'm a true believer. But it is the ugliest of the group. Rifle#2 is the best looking in my opinion.

Number 2, I like the 8mm cartridge, it is drilled for receiver sights, has good looking schnabel stock. Be my personal preference.

I'm leaning towards #2 as well. I think if I add some nice tung oil or BLO to the stock it will really make the grain come out :)

Mr. DakOta, that is very nice firearm photography. I'm envious, my gun photography always stinks. What camera did you use and what source of lighting? I'll get the same.
Thank you.

It's actually the photos from the dealer! He's very good from the feedback. As you can tell he is very detailed and answers all my Q's.

How do sling swivels on the barrel effect accuracy? Does it prevent me from using the sling as a shooting aid?

You ain't helping my cause Al Thompson! :p But if you had to pick, please vote.

I'm going with 2# as well. Cuz it looks like my 640.....:D

(oh yeah Dakota, think this guy may have some spare parts for these laying around? I need both an authentic Husqy butt plate and grip cap, plus the proper, period correct f & r iron sights)

Yes it will. Barrel band sling swivels are useful in that they move the swivel forward off the fore-end so there is no possibility of it hitting the hand on heavy recoiling rifles. Very tradional and oh-so classy.

El Mariachi,I have the sweat-on front ramp and the dove-tail rear sight for a 640(no front blade and no rear elavation ladder).send me a PM if you're interested.

In the end, number 2. Beautiful stock, it's the one I'd pick up. Second choice is number 4 as it's the nicer (to me) of the two .30-06 rifles.

The stock on #5 might be annoying to you, I have been looking at one without a pistol grip recently and am trying to get over the lack of pistol grip. Who is selling these rifles?

I like #2 and #4 personally. The sling mount on the barrel just doesn't look right to me. They are all pretty classy rifles though. I would be happy to own any of them.
