I've narrowd it down to Rock Solid, or Trueshot see through.
Anyone have opinions of each?
I don't mind drilling and tapping and Trueshot has a video that makes the whole process look really easy.
Also a video on RSI but it's in a jig, and I don't want to buy a jig.
I just want to scope the mosin and reach out and do some long range shooting.
Thanks in advance.

I used a hunk of scrap angle iron

If I were to do it all over again I'd choose the BrassStacker Universal scout scope mount.

I've tried the AIM Sports scope mount and theoretically it's decent but the problem is that most retailers will sell what they have as a universal fit for both 91/30 and M44/T53 but the two versions of rifle's rear sights are not the same so it's a crap shoot that you'll actually get the right one.

Another that I have experience with (the manufacturer escapes me) is the type that replaces the entire rear sight base... you attach it to the dovetail machined into the barrel of the 91/30. It seemingly mounts solidly but after a few rounds it and the scope will slide forward from the recoil. This is even after drilling a divot into the dovetail on the barrel for the base's lock screw to recess into. The only work-around I can think of is to drill the back of the base and bolt on an interference plate that butts up against the rear of the dovetail preventing the scope mount from sliding forward.

@ Husker.
Your idea is similar to the ones I have been making for 40 years for the Hex receiver MN's.
I use a Marlin 336 Weaver scope base for the rail, or the Direct Bolt on scope rings for the Marlin Lever actions with No rail, just the rings drilled and tapped to the angle iron.
I do make the angle iron longer and make cut outs to lighten it up a bit.
I also think I use 1/8" thick Angle , that looks thinner than the angle in your picture.
I have to make custom bolt handles for the lower scope mount, but I do that myself also in either a Flat Spoon Style or a traditional welded on turned down bolt handle.
With a 3x9 Bushnell scope, I can get 3/4 " groups using the Hornady 123 gr .310 V-Max bullets and 50 gr of IMR-4320 @ 100 yards.

Those receivers are really hard. Be prepared and go slow. Broken taps bite.

I would choose a repro PU mount. I've also been seriously thinking about buying an M91/59, saving the original rear leaf and base, and using a 91/30 base to mount something like is found on a K98k-ZF41.

I'm thinking something in the 2.5x range would do just fine. I prefer iron sights, but recognize there's a time and place for a 'scope.

FYI, there is an 11mm dovetail under the rear sight assembly on 91/30s. I removed the rear sight assembly and hammered a DIP 3/8 dovetail-to-picatinny adapter mount for a Marlin 795 over the dovetail (3/8 is smaller than 11mm so it was a tight fit, lol), and put a cheap scout scope on it. If nothing else I like how low it sits... I didn't even have to build up the comb. Most of the receiver mounts out there (including the PU/PE) put the scope ungodly high. Also I like how I didn't have to mod the bolt handle, and how I can still load with stripper clips. As well as it works it's a wonder the Russkies didn't think of doing it this way! Also the mount only cost $30 or something. I have a lot more than that in sweat equity in getting the pins out of that rear sight assembly though. I actually ended up just cutting the housing in half with a cutoff wheel to get it off, lol... so much for no permanent mods! Anyway, this is the result of my foray into Bubba gunsmithing.

There are rings that will clamp to that 11mm dovetail. Mine looks just like the above only mounts right to the dovetail. It has stood up to at least 2 range trips.... so far so good. Used a pistol scope on mine.
