I'm interested in getting some defensive ammo for my Arcus 94C. Its a Hi-power clone in 9mm with a 4" barrel for those of you keeping track.

I've heard that +P is frowned on for regular Hi-powers, is the Arcus the same?

I use it mostly for carry in the winter, which means I need a little extra penetration. Cost is also a big concern, I'd like to be able to buy enough to shoot a decent amount in addition to what I need for carry duty.

Well the shorter tube wont lose THAT much in velocity. Just pick ammo the gun likes. Arcus guns arent famous for being 'ammo picky" but certain guns like certain ammo once in a while. Find a hotter JHP with a track record thats good and is accurate from YOUR gun. If its +P or +P+ then get a proper recoil spring from Wolff and your set.
Shoot well.

Try 124 or 147gr Gold Dots,XTP's
Golden Sabres,Silvertips,SXT's.
Find the one that's reliable
and accurate in your 94C.

You do not need +P to achieve good terminal results with the Arcus 94c, as its 4" barrel will achieve nice velocity with standard loads.

I would suggest the Federal HST 124gr. JHP

Professional ballistic tests I've seen online have it expanding at about .69 to .72 with optimum penetration and great clothing/barrier performance.

You can buy it at Streichers.com in boxes of 50 for much less than most premium ammo available locally.

BTW, what holster do you use for your 94C? I've been thinking about carrying my 94c but am at a loss as to which holster might fit.

FWIW....I used Corbons +P 124 gr HP's for carry only and would only shoot a half a clip or so when practicing after shooting a few boxes of standard power loads in the same bullet weight. I wouldnt shoot that type ammo on a regular basis in a gun as its kinda tough on them.
