Your friend might be an FFL holder, but he doesn't know what he is talking about when it comes to this matter. There are folks in CA that own M1As and M1 Garands and last time I checked they were semi auto.
You show me a .223 M1 or M1A, and I'll eat my hat. ;)

There are 43 hi-point dealers listed in Ca. which means you can buy something like this for half the price of a Berretta StormCX4 . Laser995.jpg For the life of me I cannot figure out what makes guns illegal in CA.I found semi-autos with 30 round mags for sale,ie:

Here are 41 rifles listed for sale at a dealer in Bakersfield http://ammoandguns.com/firearms-rifles-capacity-c-2_12_1716.html?page=2&sort=2a

M1 Carbine

1) Reliability. I'd like to pass this rifle on later, or at least take my daughter shooting when she's twelve. Which is another 11+ years. This would be great for your Daughter to shoot. Its know for its Reliability.

2) Accuracy. Good enough not to have others laugh at you, in fact i bet you have a crowd around you just watching you shoot it.

3) Ease of cleaning. Yep

4) Cost. so it needs to be $1k or less. CMP has them for 500, there sold out now, but have many more to come, or buy new for 700 still under 1k

5) Legal in California. Yep, shipped to your door

6) .223 caliber. I'm not hard and fast on this caliber (not a pistol round)
Well its not .223, and i guess its a pistol rd maybe. Don't know any pistols that shoot it.

6a) , but I want a centerfire rifle round Yep

6b)that is relatively cheap and low recoil. Yep and Yep

7) Semi-auto preferred. Yep

8) Options other than an AR are greatly preferred. Its not a AR

To Lashlarue, No mags over 10 are allowed to be sold period. Most sites have a couple of lines in small print that say "shipped with 10rd mag, if ordering from ca". Unless of course there shipping them illegally

I think you should pack up all your stuff.
Sell your house.
Buy a new house in a free state.
Then buy an AR you really like.

Mini-14 fun functional, .223
As for your daughter, how 'bout a single shot .22 caliber rifle made especially for
the young beginners.
My Pop's got an old Winchester single shot and shortened the stock. Had to load 1 at a time then close the bolt and pull back the big knob to cock it aim and fire. I got to shoot at nickels when I was 5 years old, and by 12 i was shooting the larger stuff with success, saftey lessons already under my belt.

If it doesnt have to be a .223 I recommend a m1 garand. You should be able to find one for under 1000 and you can get surplus ammo from this site www.ammoman.com, when they have it, or anyone that sells surplus ammo.

or maybe you can get into reloading which saves me tons of money when it comes to buying ammo.

Help Zeedee find a gun

Zeedee, hi, my name is Jennifer. I work for ammoandguns.com, the site that Realmswalker gave you. (BTW, thanks, Realmswalker!) Our retail location isn't TOOOOO far from you. We're in Bakersfield, and the retail store is Second Amendment Sports. Our retail store has more options to offer than our ecommerce site, plus you get to handle the guns to see if they really fit your daughter well. We have a large staff of sales people who could help you. My recommendation is Thomas. If you feel like checking us out, I know Thomas can match her up with a great firearm for HER needs. Of course, if you decide to purchase off of ammoandguns.com, my feelings won't be hurt, either ) Either way, if you have questions for either Second Amendment Sports or AmmoAndGuns.com, please feel free to call me, and I'll make sure that you are taken care of! 661-323-4512 ext. 118 (if you'd like to visit our store site, it's http://www.2ndamendmentsports.com) Have a great day!
