Help me pocket carry a j frame.

I have a pair of those too. I lucked into them on ebay. They are the best j-frame grip IMHO...if you look quick there are some on ebay right now...

I scoured ebay and couldn't find those banangrips.

If you need that deep a level of concealment, I recommend a Smart Carry holster. This will make any gun near invisible. Otherwise, try the gun without a holster for a bit and see if it is the gun, or how the holster makes it ride. Sometimes and 8.5x11 sheet of paper folded in quarters will break up the outline all you need. I have yet to find a pair of pants that wouldn't hide a J-Frame.

I have found that with a properly tightened belt my M38 does quite well. Ive been carrying it there for quite a few weeks now. I have been carrying on my weakside pocket. I dont know I figure if its always there it will be handy even if I am carrying something else on my belt. Also if I grab it and Im up close and personal I will have a better chance of grabbing my attacker with my strong hand. I did get outed this morning. I was brushing my teeth when my 6yr old asked why I had such big pockets. About that time I felt her hand sliding in my pocket. I quickly grabbed her hand and told her it was not polite to stick your hand in others pockets and I had stuff. I was relieved when she said yeah I thought I felt your phone.

Sorry man, I would swear they were there. I put them in my watch list and saw them there last night. The auction must have been removed. They wanted over $50 for them and the colors did not match. They were smooth (like the ones I have) not etched like magnas.

I've had good results from my desantis nemesis, but yeah, I've got some pants that just don't like pocket carry. Tuckable IWB seems to be a good choice but I'd rather have a thin semi-auto like a commander sized 1911 in the waistband area.

when i'm going to pocket carry, and need to ensure that nobody can tell there's anything in my pocket, i carry my LCP. infinitely easier than my j-frame to pocket carry.

hell, i can pocket carry my glock 27 in most pants that will fit my j-frame... and, uh.. 10 rounds of .40 vs. 5 rounds of .38spl.. that's kind of a no-brainer.

as such, my j-frame sits in my safe, unloved, most of the time.

I had the "size 3" for my taurus 605

I had also to pick the type of slacks.

With jeans, only carpenter jeans worked.

With cargo pants I can conceal bigger guns ... in the cargo pockets.

Unfortunately, those banana grips are new Cocobolo, Kim Ahrends - not original S&W.

I agree!

I don't understand why you would suggest a holster that sticks to the gun when you draw?
I didn't "suggest" the holster. I commented on it's good and bad points.

I guess I was thrown off by the "excellent for J-Frames" remark. After further review - I see you were referring only to its concealability.

For me - any holster that fits a j-frame and goes into a pocket is going to pretty excellent concealment. The primary test is whether or not the holster comes out of the pocket on the draw.

Might consider an ankle holster. Pull your sock up over it if you go that way. It helps to be flexible, too. I used 'em for years, but less so now days. They are very good in the car, etc., or if you are fairly young and can still move good.
Just curious......are you a LEO?

Well I got a Mika roundcut for my 340PD, but I don't really like it. As someone on the M&P 340 thread said, it's kinda like putting your gun in a trumpet. It holds the pocket open, and exposes the grip of the gun. That Don Hume holster stays nice and flat in the pocket, and does a good job of breaking up the outline of the gun, but as I said it does have a tendancy to stick. Not always, but sometimes. With some practice of dragging the gun back on the draw, the hook on the holster would keep that from happening.

Try an ankle holster or a belly band holster over your t-shirt if you cannot find a pants holster. Both work for me when I cannot use my cross-draw rig.

That's the way they are meant to be used. Draw the gun out with a curving motion, so that the barrel ends up parallel to the ground, and then pull straight back. The hooked part on the holster will catch on the back edge of your pocket and hang there while the gun comes out. Practice at home with the gun unloaded. :uhoh:
