Yep, UM #3 as XB said. It's my most used pocket holster - in fact, it's in my pocket right now. Only $9.99 at Cabela's.

I say get a UM and order a Mika for pants pockets that are a bit tighter (it won't print.)

Xavier, what grip do you have on that Bodyguard?

My 642 pocket holster is a Galco Horsehide. Works very well, but does not fit in all pockets.

It's a grip that was given to me by a State Trooper friend. I don't know what it started as, but he sanded and buffed it down to it's present slender form. It fits my hand perfectly. He used it on a Centennial type frame, but it feels just as good on a Bodyguard. It just looks kind of odd.

Thanks for all of your help!

Ladies and Gentlemen,
Thank you for all your advice. To respond to one post- Old Navy khakis are pretty solid and heavy material, so I think I will be ok with them for CCW.

Thank You,
Cato the Younger

I pocket carry my 642 in an Uncle Mikes Sidekick size 4 holster. Tough, cheap and does a good job of breaking up the outline in the pocket. And I like synthetic holsters for pocket carry as they tend to protect the gun from summer sweat.

+1, especially about synthetic holsters. Leather holsters tend to hold moisture.

Ditto on the cheap, Uncle Mikes #3.

I've got a #3 in my pocket right now, where it's babied the finish on my nice 1971 Model 37 Airweight snubbie since 6AM this morning. Cost was less than $15 but I can't remember how much less.

It also does a great job of hiding the revolver in the pocket. You can find these almost everywhere and they are inexpensive.

I am trying to decide on which is a better pocket holster a synthetic holster or a leather holster for my S&W 642. I love the leather Don Hume Holster I have for my Kel Tec P3AT but I have read how some of the alloy/stainless S&W's lose some of their lacquer coating with sweat and moisture and I have seen some pictures that look pretty ugly on the damage. Will the synthetic holster help on this? I really like the leather because it stays in place. I know it is personal preference but is this true about the sweating? I would assume the leather would hold more moisture is that correct? Has anyone had their J frame S&W corrode on you? Any suggestions would be appreciated!!

Thanks

+1 with my emphasis on the sweat thing. Leather tends to hold it; metal hates it.

I've got both the DeSantis Nemesis and a Mika Round Cut for my 642. I find the Mika prints MUCH less than the Nemesis--more of a rounded mass than anything else. I do prefer the Nemesis if I need to carry in squared-off cargo pockets of shorts, and it will hold the gun tighter. The Mika is much quicker access should, God forbid, the need arise. Plus, Robert Mika is just a great guy to do business with as many others will attest to.

I guess to sum up, the Mika is my every-day pocket holster in the vast majority of the pants I wear. I'll probably order a square cut Mika as well.

Cheers!

I've tried a few different pocket holsters for my S&W 642. The best I have found is the holster that Stephen McElroy (GunNut, I believe) designed and makes at RKBA Holsters. Very well constructed, very reasonable price, and great customer service.

You can read a review about them over at GunsHolstersAndGear.com.

Nope, I don't own any stock at his company. I just appreciate a good product and good service.

I really, really like the Mika's and I would assume the Don Hume leather one would be nice too since I have one for my KEL-TEC PAT and love it. It does fill the pants out and make it look smoother. I also like the Desantis one as well. I have a few questions though.

First of all I am worried about the sweat/moisture issue with the leather. I like the leather because it keeps it's shape and is real easy to reholster but I am worried about the corrosion issue that I have heard some talk about. Will the Desantis keep it's shape like the leather one for reholstering the gun?

Also what do most of you use to clean your alloy/stainless J-Frames with. I am afraid with the alloy being "clear coated" or what ever they use that using to harsh of a cleaner would damage it if sweat does? What do most all of you use for cleaning and oiling your alloy/stainless guns with? I went to clean my Taurus PT-145 last week after shooting it and used Gun Scrubber and it ended up taking the red paint dot off the safety locator:banghead:. Granted I know it is a Taurus so maybe that is why but it has been a good gun for me. Any suggestions on the Holster question difference and the best cleaning supplies? Thanks!
