Looking at two rifles. The first is a CZ model 3 in 300 WSM (Wood stock). The second is a Weatherby Ultralight 300 win mag. Can you give me some ideas as to which one may be better and why. Hunting deer, elk, moose and boar. Want to stay in the 30 caliber area. Why... because it easy to get and reload.

Savage 116FHSAK 300wm..

Cheap.. extremely accurate, stainless, muzzle break.. what more could you ask?

CZ M3 was made by Montana Rifle under contract back around 2004-5; they are awesome... I have an Montana M99 in 243 and its one of my favorites. The Montanas are for 2K+, after you put the barreled action in a nice wood stock, etc. so a CZ M3 is comparatively a bargain at 800-900 bucks. If i were right handed i would have one, no question.

I would go 300 win mag, you can find ammo everywhere. If you are serious about bear/moose I would jump up to 338 win mag.

Between the two?

Weatherby Ultralight

CZs are awfully heavy rifles, and most of those animals have the nasty habit of living in steep country.:)

I'd lean towards the .30-06, though, since the .30-06 Ultralight is 1 lb. lighter than the .300 Win Mag. For real-world use throughout a hunting season, I think that I'd take the 1 lb. over the 200 fps.:) Or, if you don't mind the 1 lb., get that Mark V in .300 Wby Mag and at least get a more significant performance jump.

I'm also not enamored with the .300 WSM, though the .325 might have something going for it as an elk rifle.

Between the two mentioned rifles, the CZ M-3 is choice.

The 300WSM is an awesome round, as peyton said, the ammo of the 300Win.MAG. is more abundant, but as I tell the clientele, your not going to be so far removed from civilization that you can't find ammo for your rifle, and if you do venture far, have the foresight and plan ahead...take plenty of ammo!

The 300WSM or 300Win.MAG will dispatch anything that walks or crawls on the northern slab.

All said, I tend to agree with jimmAr, if you don't pick up that CZ, I would definitely get a Savage, you can't go wrong there....but as for me, I would leave the muzzle brake with Savage!

Hum, I'm a weatheryby fan. Started off with a 300 wby and when from there. If I was not a reloader It might be different. I would then agree with somthing in 300 WM.
