I am not very knowledgeable in all this carbine talk and missed out by 3 days on the CMP sales
I have a chance to buy a RURAL POLICE BAVARIAN CARBINE and need some advice, PLEASE.
Winchester Reciever S/N 1239XXX TYPE 3
Winchester barrel type 1
Rear sight: type 3
Front sight type 2 marked P
Winchester Slide type 4 / last 4 s/n on arm
Bolt: type 2 flat marked W / last 4 s/n on top
Trigger house: type 3 marked.U. stamped LGK K (Carinthia) - lugs with last 4 s/n
Stock: Inland. type 2 cut down to low wood, P stamp on pistol grip, left side AAF stamp, IO in sling well, very good stock condition.
Barrel band: type 3 marked KI.

My main concern is that the heal of receiver has some solder on it from Bavarian V notch sights but the austria arsonal put on the type 3 rear sight??. Would the silver solder have danmaged the receiver or take away some value of the carbine, for a collector maybe yes but I think would add history to the carbine as would have been in German police and then austria military. I think I got this right or maybe not ???

I know it is a rebuild and has updates but that is want I want. I am not a collector so does not have to correct.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks
Dick

I would post this info on the CMP forum. You will be sure to get good answers to your questions. I love these milsurp carbines. Even well used they are superior to the aftermarket ones in my opinion and I've had both.

I have owned and sold several Bavarian return M1 Carbines from the CMP. Silver solder on the rifle will decrease its value. Some collectors also consider Bavarian returns to be import marked too. Sorry......... I don't believe the silver solder would physically hurt the receiver. The CMP would not have sold them if it did.
Post some photos............:D

I have an Austrian one, that I picked up off gunbroker.

The best thing about them is the fact that they were re-issued with brand-new barrels and saw practically no use. Mine is easily service grade all the way.

ps: I believe mine was an Austrian Forestry Guard carbine. The trigger was stamped LGKNO (Landes Gendarmarie Kommando NiederOsterrich). Strangely, the receiver rail was not stamped. I guess they either skipped out or rebuilt off a replacement receiver in Vienna or something.
