Underwood-1943 Bavarian Police-M1 Carbine?

I rather doubt the Bavarian police were using M1 carbines in 1943.
They DID, however, use them after the war while Germany did not have an arms industry. At least some of them had very elaborate replacement stocks. Probably had a lot with GI wood, too. I don't know anything else but it is both odd and not in much demand so it may well be straight.

I picked over a batch of these Bavarian Forest Police M-1 carbines a few years back and almost bought one. Some looked like they had landed at Anzio, but some were in pretty nice shape. All had an unusual leather sling attached.
Wish now I had bought one but the price seemed high at the time.

It said Underwood 1943 on the barrel and it had a little bomb with a fuse engraved on it.

The receiver said "Bavarian Police".

Yeah, how did the Bavarian cops get our guns?

Actually, they were given to them by our gubmint after the war. There's plenty of pictures of German Police Officers with M-1 carbines.

What exactly does Bavarian mean? Does it have something to do with donuts?:)

The recoil spring on this seems a little weak (kind of too easy to pull back) but other than that it seemed fine. The sights on it were pretty nice.

It came with 4 mags. I couldn't tell if it was 3 (10rd) and 1 (20rd) or 3 (20rd) and 1 (30rd).

The stock on this rifle seem pretty unique compared to the other M1 Carbines I've seen.

I see ammoman.com has ammo going for $199 per 1000. Does anyone know where to get HP ammo for the Carbine?

Sorry, I couldn't resist. I was still wound up about the police using an M1 Carbine in 1943.

It is in Germany, Southern Germany. I believe it is a German state. If you saw Band of Brothers, it is where they were at the end of the war, swimming in that pristine alpine lake.
