Lately I have been looking into buying a basic rifle for plinking at the range. Here are my needs (and I think this is where I lose manufacturers!)

1. Looking for a cheap reload-able caliber (centerfire)
2. I want very low recoil so I assume the caliber should be pistol size. I just want something geared more toward fun rather than hunting.
3. pump action.

Ive done searches but all Im coming up with a Reminington pump action rifle but as far as I can tell shoots powerful rifle cartridges, a taurus thunderbolt but thats been discontinued. I want to stay way from discontinued models...

Anything I should be looking at that I am missing?

Remington 7615 Police is .223. Ugly as a mud brick but meets your criteria.

DPMS makes a pump AR15 also in .223. Very slightly less ugly than a mud brick.

.22LR would be all of the above with the exception of re-loadable. But it's cheaper than reloaded centerfire so kinda works for #1.

Or, if you could modify #3 to include lever actions, that would also open up your options. Personally, I recently acquired a Rossi levergun with a 16" barrel in .357 Magnum. Since getting it, I've found myself leaving the AR15 at home and taking the levergun. It packs a punch, it small and light and all I need to worry about is grabbing a handful of ammo.

Yes I agree- if I were to include lever action that would certainly open up my choices (and I may give up and go that route), but considering that 'cowboy shooting events' are becoming more popular I'm surprised that manufactures are not rethinking the pump action line.

EHCRain- 223 is too much for what I am looking for...

Check out a Timber Wolf if you can find one. slick little pump action in .357, .44 Mag, & .45 lc. No idea what they cost though...

CBTim- yes I saw timberwolf, but it's been discontinued and the prices are a bit outrageous- thus negating the fact that I am looking for a plinker toy!
