Need some help from those who have used Dawson Precision magwell and basepads for a high cap Para. Bought a Para 38 super high cap open gun about a year ago and wanted to update it's look a little. It had a S&A magwell/mainspring with standard Para pads on the mags. So I decided that I liked the look of the Dawson Precision magwell and DP base pads for the mags, so I bought them. Now that I have everything installed the mags won't seat all the way into the gun. It appears that they are close but not going all the way in. Am I supposed to start grinding away at all these items to get them fit together? I sure hope not! What am I missing here? Dawsons site doesn't lead me to believe that these items require to be installed by a gunsmith, very easy installation is what I thought when I bought these things. Any help from those using these items would be appreciated. I attached a pic of it below.

Thanks in advance,

Brad

OK, after closer inspection with everything dissasembled it is clear that it is nowhere close to catching the mag release. I hate to think that I have to file away at these parts to get them to work together but I guess that is the case. Sorry for wasting everyones time with this thread.

I'm afraid to ask if a longer magazine body exists. If that was the case I would be fine but I have never heard or read that someone has bought a longer mag body for their competition gun. I will give them a ring tomorrow and see what I am going to need to do. I do know that with competition guns that most magwells need blending to work at their best. I really hate to think that I'm goin to have to file on this beautiful magwell.

Are you using Para mag tubes? I know the Mecgar tubes were like 1mm shorter than the Para tubes and caused issues for me.

Thanks for asking, yes all the mag tubes are Para tubes. If I had one more mm. I would probably be fine.

Not same thing, but I recently put a DP ICE magwell on my Kimber, along with DP's extended base pads. No issues. Suggest you give them a call, they've always been more than helpful.

The old magwell was sold many moons ago. Well, took everything apart and after close inspection I have decided that the files will have to be brought out. No big deal, I've filed before so nothing new. Looks like I will have to remove some material off of the bottom of the MSH and the frame and the face of the magwell where it comes in contact with the MSH and frame. After that it looks like I will need to open up the magwell opening after all that everything should go together just fine. At least it gives me something to do over the next several nights. I'll let you all know how it turns out when I get done.
