My Son dropped off his 10/22 back pack rifle, I guess that's what it's considered. It's the one that the barrel can be taken off of with a flip of the switch and a twist.

Anyway, it was filthy, so I took it apart and cleaned it, put it all back together, and now the barrel won't twist off? I didn't change the barrel adjustment / ring nut, unless I might have some how moved it while reassembling.

Anyway, anyone know how to resolve this? It's happened before to my Son, but I don't recall how he solved it, and he isn't available for a while. I'm assuming I need to remove the 2 allen screws, which might relieve the contact pressure?

I'm honestly not trying to insult you by asking this, but are you locking the bolt back before trying to disconnect the barrel? The extractor will prevent it from twisting otherwise. You would be far from the first person who has done this...

I drop some Kroil down between the barrel and the receiver and let is sit for a few hours. Then try again.

It came free a little bit ago. A chunk of crud, grit or something must have been binding things, up. After repeatably flipping the little lever back and forth it suddenly returned on it's own spring loaded power, and then the barrel released normal. I've scrubbed it down really well, which might have been a contributing culprit to begin with, that gun was an absolute filthy mess when he dropped it off.

On another note, I can't even begin to describe the condition of the firearms this particular son of mine brings me. Granted, he is a hard core hunting fool, he simply has no respect for his tools of the trade, optics, firearms, and other outdoor gear gets seriously abused. One of these days it's going to bite him in the butt, I fear a barrel obstruction or some other serious event is on the horizon.

Thanks ya all!

Sounds like you could make a couple dollars reviewing equipment online. I'd like to hear what holds up to his abuse and what fails. But I do wish him safe hunting.

I've actually joked with about that before. If anyone can take gear to it's limits, it would be that particular son of mine!
