So I just bought some 357 ammo. I put one in to see if I got the nice ring of fouling or whatever from shooting 38's out of the cylinder chambers. I then pushed the ejector rod and removed the round. And this is where it gets fun...

The cylinder will not go back into the frame. It gets stuck maybe half way on what looks to be in the center of the cylinder on the oppositte side of the ejector rod (so facing the hammer, don't know the term.)

I wasn't hard with it, and I've only gone to the range with it once. Any help would be very, very much appreciated.

I know that if anything gets on the underside of the ejector, the cylinder will not close and lock.

I couldn't get mine to close and found a tiny grain of powder residue under the ejector. I wiped it out and the cylinder closed.

Like BikerRN said. Disassemble and clean it completely. Use oil sparingly, especially under the ejector.

Stuff like this ought to dispell the rumer that revolvers are dead reliable. I like revolvers and I enjoy shooting my GP-100 but I do get tired of hearing so many people say that revolvers are infallible.

Whew! You guys are dead on. Thank god that's all it was. I'm going on a trip tomorrow and I really wanted to get some quality time with the GP.

I hope I didn't do any damage to the gun in my frantic state. I actually forced the cylinder into the frame to see what would happen when I worked the action. It at least LOOKS ok as of right now.

I love you guys. Anytime I'm in a firearm crisis, you guys come through with flying colors. Thanks a million!!!

Gp 100

Hi,
My license reads june 13 1990 for my Ruger Gp100. That's a GP 161, 6 " barrel and full underlug. I do not keep records, but 5 000 mag and 15 000 .38's should be close. Not one gun malfunction in 18 years of use. Once a year i do the full strip and detach the trigger assembly. Wiping down after every 50 rounds, including bore and cylinder cleaning. This is the absolutely most reliable gun I've ever encountered, including five years of service with everything from pistols to 6 inch cannon.
You sure no foreign object was involved?

I just bought a 4" blue GP100 myself and LOVE it. Been a long time since I've had a revolver (other than .22's) I love the modular design. It shoots like a dream. Once I got used to the DA pull/break I could hit a 16oz dring bottle 6 for 6 at 25 yards. It was slightly less accurate with .38's (well the cheap ones I had anyway) I expect I'll love this even more when I get to handloading for it. I really like the way the grip feels and how the trigger stacks. I plan to hunt with it some next fall. Doe anyone here have a link to good isntructions for complete takedown? I've been told the whole thing comes apart without anything but the rim of a case (to take grip panel off) and parts from the gun itself...like a 1911! I'd like to see a detailed takedown with pics if one exists somewhere on the net.

.38 accuracy

I tried 16 loads before finding out that my GP 100 liked .357 sized lead bullets for .38 loads.Gave me one inch groups at 25 meters. This old lady has taken me to the national finals this year.
It does take a bit more than a coin to strip it though. You need an angled pin or similar to detach the trigger assembly. This group is
beyond most of us. I only spray it with solvent, flush with hot water, air dry, and relubrucate. Yo'll never get as good a trigger pull in a GP100 as in a 686 or Smith K-model, but it is safe and accurate.

hold the barrel straight up when ejecting emptys & this should minimize the powder under the star problem.
this is a golden opportunity to say i reload & use powders that leave vvvveeerrrryyy little residue !!!!

Love my six inches of GP 100. I own Glocks and 1911's and was for a long time a S&W only man. For pure shooting pleasure I'll take a revolver.
