Help! Winchester part ID please

Can anyone help identify this broken part..My friend opened the case to his 1895 Winchester lever-action octagon barrel and this piece was in the case. I believe he said it was a 30-30 chamber. The right side has broken off as you see. He has not taken the gun apart as of yet...Regards .......Tom H...

i could be mistaken, but it looks like part of the sear or at least one of the trigger/hammer springs.
