A friend recently dug an old lever gun out of his attic for me to take a look at: a Model 1894 Marlin Deluxe Take Down, with 1/2 octagonal and 1/2 round barrel in .25-20. It looks great, however, it is missing it's firing pin.

The serial number and the Marlin website indicate it was made in 1895.

I was under the impression that it is meant to have a one-piece firing pin; but I looked on Numrich's site, and see two part pins for 1894's. I presume they changed the design in the last hundred years for function or safety; but i'm no expert on these...and haven't taken the gun apart yet.

Where would i find the proper part(s)?

Thanks for your help, Dd

I am far from an expert on old Marlin's, and I could be wrong.
But I thought the 1894 always used the two-piece firing pin.

They first introduced the "Marlin Safety" firing pin on the Model 1889 to prevent the rifle from firing unless the finger lever was fully closed.

Pretty sure it went on everything designed after that.

Course, that doesn't mean the firing pins from a "new" model 1894 is going to fit one made in 1895.

I'd try Wisners for a new firing pin, or pins.

I would check under the butt plate. Many times the fp is removed and stored away to make the gun inoperable because of a problem or perceived problem.
