A group is going through my LGS to place a bulk reloading order and if I want in I have to put my order in today. This will be my first order.

I have 2 questions to you fine members of THR.

I have PMC and Federal 9mm brass, what kind of primers do I need? I did a google for primers that PMC takes but didn't come up with much.

I know it's best to find 'the right powder for you' but I want to get something ordered in bulk to cut down on cost so what assuming I get a 4#/8# powder keg, what would be a good brand for reloading 9mm? (Just a suggestion, I know I'll eventually find what's best down the road)

Wanting to get in this because I really won't have to pay anything for hazmat fees.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the first thing you need to buy is a good reloading manual like the Lyman #49.
It will answer your questions.

Anyway, all 9mm uses standard Small Pistol primers.

Powder is kinda hard to say, because you didn't say whether you want light target loads, or full power & performance?
Or what bullet weight you want to use?

For something like a factory load duplicate 115 grain?
I use Unique, but many people don't like it.
You could look at something like W-231 for better metering in any kind of powder measure.

At any rate, I would kinda discourage you from buying 4 or 8 pounds of any one powder you haven't tried yet.

That translates to somewhere around 5,000 or 10,000 typical 9mm loads.
And thats a heck of a lot of ammo if it turns out you don't like the powder.

Very important. Get a book or 2. You will answer your own question with this. You a already on your way. Good luck and safe loading.

Thanks RC, I'll just get the primers, I just hate to miss out only to buy powder in a few weeks and have to pay an extra hazmat fee :(

I will definitely pick up a book or two, I just tend to jump on deals when I see them because I know it will save me $ down the road :)

Well, you could get 1# of W-231, 1# of Unique, and maybe 1# of something else like HS-6 if you want full power loads.

That right there is enough to load 4,000 rounds or so.
And it will give you some experiance with three different powders that do quite well in 9mm at different levels of power with most bullet weights.

Thanks a lot. I'll try and do that.
And I did forget to mention the kind of loads I wanted but you hit it on the head, 115gr factory/target loads.

Small Pistol Primers for the 9MM as said.

Get yourself at least 2 manuals.
And since you want powder, I would try Power Pistol. It's pretty good.
I like W-231 for my .38 but have yet to try the loads I made in 9mm.
Unique is also a good bet because you can use it in a few calibers.

I use Unique in .45, 9mm, and 40S&W. So it could be a decent choice for you if you want to try out in other calibers you might end up shooting.

+1 to what rcmodel said.

Get a reloading manual or three.

To reload without is like getting behind the wheel of the car with no instructions.
It's suicide!

Please stay safe.

Thanks all and I tried to make clear, I'm just asking the info to get an order out the door, I will of course do my research and be safe before I actually start reloading.

Update: I put my 1st order in; 5,000 small pistol CCI primers ($130 but didn't have to pay the hazmat & shipping fee so hopefully it wasn't a bad deal) and 1 lb. W-231 and 1 lb. Unique, I couldn't find the HS-6 (I believe made by Hodgdon but couldn't find the HS-6 in the book we had on hand).

My next purchase is a manual or two, then (after reading & comprehension) the press and FMJ's & Dies/etc. (have the brass).
