A friend of mine has a Japanese made Winchester 1885 Trapper in 38-55 caliber. For some reason,he thought the action needed smoothing up. Long story short, he brought the plastic bag of parts to me seeking help reassembling it. All info for assembly/disassembly that I can find is for original 1885s and the Japanese model is VERY different. I have no experience with this rifle and could use any help you can give. A link to a "how to" video would be awesome! Thanks!

SO, what was different about it, other then coil springs??

I had never had one apart so couldn't offer any advice.

But I would like to understand more about what differances there is.

Thanks

The buttstock is held on with a bolt inside like a shotgun. The trigger group is held in place by grooves in the receiver. The ejectors is different as well. In order to re-assemble,the hammer pin must be removed and the trigger group and breechblock must be installed and pinned. Assemble the hammer springs and pins on the hammer and push it into the hammer spring seats of the trigger group as a unit compressing the springs as you go then installing the hammer cross pin. I tried to use the breakdown procedure I found in a 2004 issue of The American Gunsmith on the Browning Model 1885(same gun)but to no avail. It said to assembl trigger group, breech block and hammer sprins and install as a unit. THAT DOESN'T WORK!!!! Thanks to Jim Watson for providing a link (on TFL) that had good info. BTW,it really is easy,ONCE YOU KNOW HOW!;)
