rem 870 express or a basic browning bps for trap shooting at local trap club I am not a heavy trap shooter just for fun maybe 2,500 rnds a year.

Many clay shooters don't like the bottom feeding of the BPS and the Ithaca M-37.

Get the M-870, but in the better Wingmaster grade. You may be able to find a good used one. At one time, ALL 870's were marked as Wingmasters.

The best and most durable 12 ga pump is the Winchester Model 12. They can get really pricey but if you find one reasonable then you'll have a good investment and good shotgun that will shoot a LONG LONG time.

"...Rem 870 Express or a basic Browning BPS..." Remington's 'Express' line are entry level firearms. MSRP of $411. $1081 for a Wingmaster trap. An 870 Express with Remchokes will do nicely though.
No such thing as an entry level Browning. MSRP of $620 and up. $780 for a BPS trap gun.

That's if you're buying brand new. I just bought a wingmaster in great condition for $289, cheaper than if I went and bought an inferior, brand new, 870 Express.

Wingmasters are great guns as are regular 870s, either way, buy used, they're better yet.

I bought an 870 Wingmaster new. I am so glad I spent the extra money on it. It just looks and feels better than the express. I get some compliments at the trap/skeet range too.

It is personal preference, of course. Just make sure you "touch and feel" and shoot if possible all the options that fit your requirements. Whatever you choose you will be able to rest easy knowing you made the best choice if you do the above.

Many of your fellow shooters on the trap line will appreciate you using a bottom feeder/ejector so as not to hit them with empties (unless you are used to slowly opening the action and grabbing the hull from a side-eject model)

Buy the gun that FITS, regardless of the brand name
