Pump for Trap shooting

I vote for the full choke on trap, based on my experience. One thing, not mentioned, is the stock. Trap guns are a bit higher at the comb, thus making the gun shoot a bit high which is perfect for a rising going away target. You might try covering the bird with the barrel just at the moment you pull the trigger. My .02
That's the case. A "Trap" gun is specifically designed to break clearly visible above the barrel rising birds at about 36 yards. They are damn near useless for anything else... So don't buy one if you are not dedicated to it.

I am a reasonably good skeet shooter that had no opportunity to shoot trap at my skeet club. For variety we went to a range that had both skeet and trap and after shooting a few rounds of skeet I decided to shoot some trap with my skeet gun.

I screwed in my modified choke (also moved up to 1 1/8 oz of 8 shot) and after 3 rounds of 17, 17 and 18 birds a club instructor came up to me and said that he noticed that I was using my skeet gun. He said that my gun was set up the same as a field gun and if I wanted to get better scores that I should cover the birds with my barrel at the moment I pulled the trigger (keeping the gun moving still applies here) for the same reason dbarky and MattShlock mentioned. My next round was a 23... Life was good again!

Yea, my M12 is patterned at 70/30 so more shot in the pattern is above the sightline.

Which makes something like the new Fabarm XLR5 Velocity a neat possibility as the rib and comb are adjustable. You can make the gun shoot 90/10 or change it incrementally down to 50/50. Makes it versatile enough to be used for all of the clay games
