just a guess, but - if she is out in the sticks, there might be some back yard practice - and since cost is a concern, ammo for 9mm PCC will be cheaper. for purely defense, I'd want a relatively short/legal barrel 20 gauge, but - if I was also going to shoot a box or two for practice and fun sometimes, I'd lean heavily to a PCC. Then you are also in a situation where if an attractive Pistola in 9mm at a good price is found, you already have cartridges for it and don't have to add or do too much of anything else. Already have proper sized cleaning tools etc.
