Help with M77 Mark II .300 WM recoil

I would scrap the stock. A decent stock makes all the difference in the world. Second, and I'm suprised I'm the only one to mention this, is a mecury (Hg) recoil tube in the stock. They only don't work if you are shooting downhill (even though just having the added weight will help). There are spring recoil absorbers also, like the Dead Mule from 100 Straight. They may affect point of aim and the twang they make, may or may not be noticeable. The Hg Tubes are made to go under the recoil pad in the stock, or there are thin ones that can be inlet into the barrel channel. I have two stock tubes on my Winchester 1500XTR and you can shoot two rounds of sporting clays before you start to get beat up. I would choose these, even though they add weight, over the porting as that really increases noise. Some really clap your ears to the point where you won't want to go hunting without ear protection.

I'd recommend two of the suggestions in this thread that I have used right off the bat.

The PAST magnum recoil pad takes the sting right out of a heavy hitter. I've used it myself and loaned it out at the range to rave responses. Getting more upright at the bench so you can flex with the recoil makes a big difference as well. In combo, those practices should help out a bunch.

You want to try this out right now the folded towel idea along with getting higher should let you know if this will work for you, right now right cheap.
