A friend was kind enough to give ma an old mauser that needs some love.
On the action mod.98 front of the action a nazi bird with a swastica and a 5diget number top of the action 43 and what looks like dou.
Thought it to be an 8mm but 8 aint fitting. Thinking 7mm.
Oh yeah no rear sights look as none were ever on this.
I know with out pix its a lil tough but any help would be good.
Thanx.

The "dou" and date with Nazi proofs show this receiver was made at Waffenwerke Brunn in Czechoslovakia during the WW2 occupation, but that doesn't mean the receiver hasn't been rebarreled to another chambering. If an 8x57 Mauser cartridge doesn't fit, make sure that there isn't an obstruction in the chamber or throat, and take it to a smith to have a chamber cast done to determine what it's chambered for now.

Sdc thank you this thing is really tore up. Would like to reblue and all that bore looks good.what I did do is chamber a spent 8mm force fit well though neck was crimped down to about 7mm.
Again thank you

Sporterized for sure, and the lack of a rear sight indicates it was re-barreled to who knows what. If the barrel is not marked, the only choice is a chamber cast.

Mauser

There is suppose to be a Mauser Museum in New Jersey. I had a Mauser with the bent bolt and thought is might be the sniper version. They were able to look it up in their data base for me. I looked but can't seem to find their contact info. But I suspect a Google. Search would help. Very helpful and knowledgable guys.

The gun was originally made at the Bystrica factory of Waffenwerke Brunn (Brno) in occupied Czechoslovakia in 1943. It was originally chambered for the standard German 7.9 (8x57) cartridge.
