Hi all,
I have a Rossi that I need help trying to replace a part on.
The 'star' on the ejector rod that rotates the cylinder is worn and causing jams when rotating.

It is only a year old and I know it is under warranty but I'd like to replace the part myself as I would have to send it in for repairs (private sale). I am having trouble finding any information on this procedure/tools required though. Any help would be appreciated, and any site that has the part (I've been to a few parts sites and none so far have had it).

Lastly, I've checked that the rod is tightly screwed now (was firing it a lot without checking and it had come quite loose which I suspect is the reason for wear) and have shown another experienced shooter to confirm it is the part in question. I can take pictures if need be when I get home tonight but didn't think it necessary.

Any help at all is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I sent mine in to Rossi due to it locking up and the cylinder rubbing, it came back a much better revolver. I think they gave it trigger job because the double action trigger pull was much better when it came back. I would go ahead send it in.

Thank you both for the help. I think I'll give them a call before and poke around before I send it in. The thought of sending it through the mail not to mention waiting doesn't sit too well.

Well, you can't send it "through the mail." Only FFL dealers can use the USPS to ship handguns. You would have to ship it UPS or FedEx. If you contact Rossi CS they may send you a shipping label that you can use to ship the gun at their expense; some companies do that, but not all.

Thanks Jim, I've already looked at Rossi's policy and you have to pay $35 to send at your expense. That and the time it will undoubtedly take makes me want to just replace the piece myself.

I would still talk to customer service and let them know that it is supposed to pay shipping. Do so in a tactful way and maybe speak to a supervisor if the CS clerk says no to paying shipping.

I called Rossi yesterday. After my slide plate screw fell out on my r46102. They are sending me a new one for $10. I would give them a call. It is hard to find companys that deal Rossi parts. Or any aftermarket parts. If you know of any let me know.

P.S
I am convinced I am going to get the wrong screw. I hope not.

Just a screw?

Did you pop over to ace hardware to look first?

Thanks for the tip. If I get the part hopefully it won't be too hard to figure out how to replace it.

Just hope you don't have to send it in. I had to send mine in, exact model as yours less than a year old, because the cyclinder was binding up which turned out to be a bent exractor rod and I never even fired the gun and it was bought brand new. Anyways it took them over 2 months to get it back to me but they did fix it and paid for shipping both ways.

Just a quick update. I called Rossi at work but didn't have my serial number so called them again when I got home but left a message. Might be on hold till Monday.

In the mean time, if anyone has any kind of procedure on replacing the ejector rod 'assembly' even on a different revolver that may be similar, I'd appreciate it.

Unless you are familiar with fitting hands and revolver timing, it is a job best left to the experts at Rossi or a goood revolver smith.

It's not just a drop-in part.

Thanks for the advice rc. I figure'd it might be something I could handle with the right instructions since I had a Beretta Carbine that said you should take it to a gunsmith to do a conversion to left handed but I did it fine myself. If Rossi offers to pay for the shipping I'll just send it in to them, but still would like to know the procedure in case I'm ever in a situation where I have to repair it myself.

That's great rc thanks! That's why I love posting here with a question, community always helps out :)

i wanted to do the same thing to a smith and wesson, the star simply un screws(reverse threads on some),but smith wouldnt sell it to me.they said the new one would require re-timing.
