I know some guys are not happy with the AR-7 due the reliability issues, but there's some following of this rifle.
I like it for it's simplicity, modular design and potential for mods.

Most agree that the Henry variant seems better than previous ones.

In any scenario, I see this rifle as a nice canvas for self expression.
I have done some makeovers with it.
I saw online as pistol grip with a tubular stock- and I have made my own with an AR 15 grip
I also made my own barrel/trunion combo using a crosman .22 airrifle barrel. I chambered it for 22 lr and made an aluminum shroud for it which looks menacing like an integrated silencer.

Made the magazine serviceable - as single or doubled up via single floor plate. Hold open followers.

Thanks for watching. To be continued... HENRY12.jpg

I have this pristine Armalite AR-7 however both it and the Henry Survival have user practicality issues.

1.There is no manner of carrying the firearm hands-free! pretty important when you are attempting to survive.

2. Both suffer from the design that IF dropped the buttstock falls off (in the dark, in the water, etc., there goes Plan A).

3. After a few shots, recoil-induced de-rotation of the barrel-receiver engagement occurs and accuracy goes to ****.

I modified my Henry to address theses issues; the President of Henry took them under consideration for the next iteration.

1. Use a auto body panel tab fastener to secure the buttstock to the stock so it cannot possibly be separated upon a drop incident.

2. Replace the buttstock-receiver bolt with an adapter for a Rogers single-point sling QD attachment; hands-free now.

3. The sling attachment allows for a small survival pack to be secured in proximity to the rifle,

including a .22 LR pistol of choice w/extra ammo in the pack.

4. Easy to improve upon peep sights with little foot print of carry

Very nice mods. It looks like the rifle can be improved upon by a user. So it,s not a lost cause. It has a potential.
I found on the net a very sexy reiteration of AR-7 by Majestic arms who designed it for the movie “The Interpreter’ I will build something similar. What do you think? D6DBCB6B-26F3-4907-B91D-15CDF8AAFDE6.jpeg C53A78E7-2A22-417C-8206-B5EA359CC1D0.png

I,m aware of a few wood stocks for AR-7

But I have not seen a hollow one that would hold the parts inside like the plastic original.
I have attempted to make one . I don,t have much experience except a couple of finishes of my rifles.
I designed a thumbhole stock for ar 7, it also holds 3 mags.
It, a bit rough, might need to finish it smoother. But I might leave it distressed like this.

LEGALITY: FOLDING STOCK VS TAKE DOWN RIFLE
I'm thinking to recreate the Majestic Arms movie rifle from my AR-7[ [perhaps without the red dot]. I would do it a bit differently. see the drawing

It appears from the pictures that it's pistol grip is screwed in and held from unscrewing by a thumb screw in the receiver. Also- the wire stock is held attached to the pistol grip by another set screw[+ prevents it from rotation]

According to the web info the rifle disassembles into 6 separate pieces: barrel, receiver, pistol grip, wire stock, magazine and optics.

I wonder if I can make a brake down rifle without disassembling it completely: Loosen the thumb screws, turn the pistol grip almost 180 degree and the wire stock 180 degree for storage. Not separating parts.

Now, most important QUESTION:
If the wire stock covers the trigger area, effectively making the rifle inoperable- would it still be considered folding stock? [a no no with the pistol grip or other 'assault weapon features in NJ] or it simply would become as stored weapon?
Indeed one can always just remove the stock completely for the storage.

Some nice ideas here, but mine was such a POS jam machine, even after two trips back to Charter Arms, it wasn't worth considering any improvements.

Traded it to a friend who knew its foibles for a Stevens Visible Loader which didn't work either. lol

Henry made seems better by many accounts. Bunch of guys improved reliability: feeding, ignition, extraction, mags etc.

I've heard the Henry is much improved, but that gun left such a bad impression I don't think I could consider another.

I replaced it with a stainless Marlin Papoose which I'm very happy with.

I wish I could wood work like some of you guys here.
Thanks.
I,m an experienced custom bike builder, but novice at arms and woodwork. But it,s always first time for everything, you try something simple, and gradually progress.

Or try complex and don,t be discouraged by a failure , keep banging at it.
I refinished my existing rifle stocks first. Before making this ambitious project. I still need to refinish it as I was impatient and didn,t do a good prep work before the staining. But it,s fixable.

Completed my black look alike of the movie rifle. I don,t have a high end m68red dot , but I think it looks cool and is surprisingly comfortable shooter. Might zero it this weekend.
