Henry single shot rifles

A falling block would require a great deal more machining and parts and fitting. I'm a fan of break open guns. The H&R's and Rossi's soured many peoples taste for them but done correctly it can be a very accurate action.

I still like my .357 Handi-Rifle (H&R), but if Henry comes out with a .357 Mag, I might just have to trade in the H&R (or give it to some deserving youngster).

Congratulations........ That looks like a good sign. They are showing up here and there and I still haven't seen one in person but perhaps that's a good thing. Henry may be maintaining their quality standards instead of sacrificing quality for quantity. Keep us posted.

I have no knowledge of manufacturing costs but I’d think a falling block would be much more expensive to make. I could be wrong though because I really don’t have any idea.

And you would be right... At least one of any quality would be...

Oh yeah, just ask these guys;

Ruger #1's in 357 show up now and again on Gunbroker.
The current .44 looks great, but too pricey for me.
The Uberti 1885's are nice, but near a grand as well.

My 357 Handi is a very good shooter, but man, it's muzzle heavy. Shooting offhand gets tiresome quickly. Instead of a taper profile, it has a bulge profile, probably just to fit the standard 12 gauge forend. The older H&R Toppers had a nice slim profile, but I've never seen one in 357 or 44.
I think a 44 Rem Mag Henry in steel with open sights will have the balance I'm looking for with the slim barrel and big bore.

Well, appears to have been a false alarm. The "pending" charge on my credit card has disappeared, and my order at Cabela's is reading "Backordered" again. In fact, it looks like the .44 Mag version is the only one Cabela's hasn't gotten yet. The wait continues ...

Bummer! I hate to "like" that, but thanks for keeping us posted......soooo many guns I'm interested in, can't wait for other people to get them LOL!

I have had my 223 for a week. Have not had it out to the range yet, but it IS a beautiful rifle. I rarely shoot my ARs anymore, opting instead for the zen of single loading a bolt gun. I can't wait to get this is out there and run it!!

I love single shot guns as I can enjoy the shots much more than the new whizbang semis :)

Thank you. Picked it up this afternoon. Given my schedule, it will be a while before I can get it to the range ... but that won't stop me from happily fondling it in the interim! I'll start a new thread with a range report as soon as I can.

If you happen to break it down I would be interested in some pictures of the lockup lug and forend hanger. Its a rebounding hammer mechanism right?

It's a beauty, and thanks for the pictures and thanks in advance for your planned range report. I've still never seen one in person but at least they are shipping 'em now and that's a real good sign that I may get to see one pretty soon, ( I hope). If you post some more pictures of it I'd also vote for some pix of the lockup lug and stuff like that. Congrats on a nice looking rifle and may it serve you well.

That is correct. I'm swamped the next couple of days, but will get to some additional photos and a complete review as I have the time. First impressions, though, are very positive. Fit and finish seem very nice.

I'm interested to see how these Henrys turn out. If they're good, I might have to get one in 45-70. Get some thump on the cheap, and I'll never need more than one bullet at a time for pumpkins or 2 liters.

If the fit and finish is as good as it looks in those pictures I'm really itching to see one in person now. The more I see of those things the more I want one.

I know this is going way out on a limb but is your user name related to the state you live in Delawarean?
