I decided to try out some stuff that I had lying around in my G26 to decided on a carry round. I'm currently carrying Speer 124gr+P GDHP but, it has a pretty stout recoil especially in the shorter smaller G26. The numbers were obtained using a tripod mounted Pro-Chrono Digital Chronograph. They consisted of ten shot strings approximately ten feet fron the muzzle. Here are the numbers.
Speer 147gr. GDHP
Hi=971 fps. Lo=946 fps. Avg=961 fps. Es=25 fps. Sd=8 fps.
Speer 124gr.+P GDHP
Hi=1216 fps. Lo=1170 fps. Avg=1192 fps. Es=46 fps. Sd=15 fps.
Corbon 125gr.+P JHP
Hi=1236 fps. Lo=1201 fps. Avg=1213 fps. Es=35 fps. Sd=11 fps.
They were also listed in order of manageable recoil with the Corbon's being the most stout of the three. Speer's web site listed the 147gr. GDHP's to be running 985 fps out of a 4in test barrel with 961 fps. being pretty respectable out of the shorter G26. I'm sure that the 961 fps. obtained out of the Glock is well within the performance envelope of the that particular round. I'm going to get a hold of Speer next week to make sure. I'd like to try out some of the Winchester Ranger 147gr. and 127gr. +P+ to see what kinds of numbers they pull.
Flip.
